The USDM received the Z31 chassis in the form of the 300ZX, however we never received the Z31 quite like this. This 1987 Nissan Fairlady 200ZR is equipped with an RB20DET engine and is the last of the Z cars to use an inline-six. The RB20DET is a very stout engine but this factory configuration eases the work required for swaps such as the RB25DET.

The stock wheels have been replaced with a set of 17” SSR Formula Mesh wheels which work well with an otherwise stock appearance. The exterior as a whole is in very good shape for its age with only minor blemishes and some trim wear. The paint shines nicely with plenty of depth and the body has no major dents or dings. Noteworthy items on the exterior include optional T-Tops and a functional hood scoop which feeds the factory top mount intercooler.

Changes on the interior include a set of Bride seats, Italvolanti steering wheel, aftermarket gauges, and a bolt in roll cage. The dash has two small blemishes from previously mounted gauges but otherwise looks great and has no cracks. The seats and door panels show light wear with no major rips or tears. The T-Tops still have the factory shades that often go missing, but there are a few other small trim pieces missing.

The RB20DET starts right away, idles properly, and accelerates very well. Shifts through the 5 speed manual transmission are smooth and the clutch does not slip. The stock turbocharger has been upgraded to an HKS GT2530. Other modifications include a NISMO front strut bar and 3” catback exhaust. The odometer currently reads 60k miles, however this could not be verified, so the mileage is listed as not actual. Overall this Z31 drives well and is a very unique import.
