Exterior Overview
JDM fanboys know the Skyline as one of Japan’s most appealing sports cars, but enthusiasts know this model comes in a variety of different body styles and drivetrains. Not everyone needs a fire-breathing twin-turbo inline six and an aggressive all wheel drive system like the GT-R. Models like this 1999 25GT-V are fun to drive, easy to service, practical, and affordable. Finished in classic Dark Blue Pearl (BP9), this stylish sedan is in good shape, aside from a noted trunk replacement in Japan and light dings, chips, and scuffs from normal use. Best of all, this neat Nissan is fresh off a comprehensive service, including a new timing belt and water pump, and is offered with an incredible 39k verified and documented miles on the clock. Balanced and responsive, this safe and spacious Japanese Classic has room for five, and would make for a dependable daily driver, a blank slate to modify, or a cool Cars & Coffee cruiser.
Interior Overview
The cabin is ergonomic, spacious and safe. Access inside is made more seamless thanks to functional keyless entry. Drivers of all sizes benefit from a tilt-adjustable steering column to find the ideal seating position. A MoMo steering wheel adds to the sporty aesthetic and feels great in the palms of your hands. Power folding mirrors, electric locks, and power windows all work, making daily life more manageable. A passenger SRS airbag adds some peace of mind for those sitting shotgun, and the dashboard is in good shape aside from two tiny holes from a previous nav mount and some minor distortion by the gauge cluster. The center stack is close by and within arm’s reach. We upgraded the audio to a new BOSS unit so that the new American owner can blast some tunes with Bluetooth integration. The BOSS headunit also boasts American FM frequencies absent from Japanese radios. Above a simple-to-use automatic climate control unit doles out piping hot heat and cold AC so the cockpit can be enjoyed year-round. The gray and black sport cloth seats are in good nick and lack any major rips, stains, or tears. The same material can be found in the door cards, which have resisted major abuse over the years. The headliner and carpets look nice, and overall it’s clear this cabin was cared for in Japan.
Mechanical Overview
A front-engine, rear-drive layout is what every purist wants. The 50/50 weight distribution pays dividends when braking and handling, too. The RB25DE under the hood is smooth and responsive. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 2.5L cranks to life courtesy of a new 12V battery. A new engine air filter allows the 2.5L to breathe freely and the inline six pulls hard to redline. One of our trained techs has addressed a few oil leaks. New valve cover gaskets were installed, as was a new front main seal. The most expensive preventive maintenance item was take care of, too! A new timing belt and water pump were installed, and the coolant was flushed with new stuff. Good for ten years or 90k miles, this will save the new owner some serious coin! The RB produces good midrange power and is linked to a five-speed manual gearbox. The transmission lacks any hitches or grinding and is communicative. Torque is sent to the rear wheels and this no nonsense Nissan boogies up to highway speeds. The long weelbase makes high speed crusiing comforable and the suspension offers a good amount of ground clearance and feels predictable. The standard ABS brakes feel confident as the rear pads have been swapped out with brand new ones. The power steering is light yet communicative and grip is handled by four new Nexen tires. Freshly aligned, this sedan benefits from a new driver side outer tie rod, tracks straight as an arrow, and can be put to task on an immediate road trip.
