Exterior Overview
The S15 Spec R is everything a proper Japanese coupe should be. Lightweight, quick on its feet, and easy to modify and maintain. Our 2000 Nissan Silvia is a cherry example, finished in Sparkling Silver (WV2) and set off by OEM rainguards, factory Xenon headlamps, and 17″ Volk LE37 wheels. Save for some nicks in the paint, and a noted replacement of the front bumper in Japan, this stylish and recognizable chassis shows better than most, and enthusiasts will appreciate the 51k miles on the clock, which are verified, documented, and do a ton to help this S chassis retain its value. Sporty, nimble, and easy to take on your daily commute, it’s easy to see why this is Spec R is a Japanese Classic for the ages!
Interior Overview
The interior has everything you need, and nothing you don’t. It’s also well designed, spacious, and offers up a host of modern power equipment and amenities to assist daily use. A few choice upgrades have been made, too, for the performance enthusiast, and the driver can sink their tush into a Recaro SR2 seat, and get comfortable behind the grip of a MOMO steering wheel. For safety oriented passengers, a SRS airbag is tucked into the dash for peace of mind. The upholstery is in good condition overall, lacking any major rips, stains or tears apart from some minor bolster wear on the driver’s Recaro seat. The dash is also free of unwanted cracks or fading, although there is some peeling on the carbon-look trim. Tucked neatly in the center console, upgraded Panasonic audio features Bluetooth compatibility to pipe in your own tunes, and an adjacent digital automatic climate control unit can dole out cold A/C and hot heat on command. If you prefer to listen to the SR’s soundtrack, power windows unfurl with ease, and power locks and electric folding side mirrors are on hand to aid day to day use. The back seat folds down to allow trunk access, and the driver can tune in to a pillar-mounted Defi boost gauge to keep an eye on their turbocharger’s performance. The anthracite headliner is tidy, and the carpets have been protected by a sweet set of black and red OEM mats. Even the original owner’s manual and maintenance booklet are on hand to help the next owner preserve the history of this Silvia!
Mechanical Overview
Under the hood, the SR20DET stands loud and proud, and is fresh off a recent service here at the shop. The platform of choice for many an enthusiast on the street or circuit, this punchy inline four is fun to modify, easy to service, and has a bit of preventative maintenance done here to boot. We took care of an oil and filter service, replacing the valve cover gasket and oil pan gasket while we were at it, to keep lubricant internal. It cranks over with haste, care of a new 12v battery, and a new engine air filter and fuel filter, and spark plugs provide a bit of a tune-up. This 2.0t is a delight to listen to as well, as a Kakimoto Regu 06&R exhaust accentuates the four banger’s throaty growl. A six speed gearbox features quick ratios to make the most of the SR’s versatile powerband, and throws the power rearward. We even resealed the rear differential to prolong the lifespan of the components inside. Aftermarket coilovers keep the chassis planted alongside a thicker rear swaybar, and we replaced both front caster arms to dial in the alignment. New front swaybar links were installed to pass state safety inspection, and this S-chassis starts, steers, and stops as you’d expect. The Volks were wrapped in brand new rubber, and after a fresh alignment in our shop, you’ll be covered for tens of thousands of miles to come!
