Whether you're looking for an around hauler, weekend road trip warrior, or a place of residence as you venture off the grid, this 1995 Toyota Hiace checks all the boxes and then some. Finished in Light Beige/Reddish Brown Metallic (21T) and offset by a funky graphics package, this van certainly looks the part, and enthusiasts clamor for the robust turbodiesel drivetrain that powers this spacious transporter. Additionally, the exterior is set off by an OEM optional rear mudflap, a tasteful rear spoiler and lollipop mirror, and some sleek 16" bronze 5 spoke alloys. Sporting only 72k verified miles on the clock this one has plenty of life left and should suit its next owner well. We wanted to note a prior replacement of the front bumper in Japan, but this van is no worse for the wear and that didn't seem to affect the rides appearance one bit. For a do it all transporter with the looks and drivetrain to get just about any job done, this Japanese Classic HiAce is the ticket.
Like the exterior, the interior of this super hauler is as exciting and super welcoming. The seats are trimmed in a plush multicolor cocoa cloth, and fortunately, all three rows have resisted any major wear and tear over the years. The middle row can swivel 180 degrees to keep your rear passengers occupied on family road trips, and the seats can also fold fully flat if you or your occupants need to pull the curtains closed and catch some shuteye. Power windows, mirrors, and locks work like a charm and dual zone climate control comes standard for some fine tuning of the cabin's temperature. While all equipment works well, we wanted to note the driver's mirror no longer power folds. As expected, the A/C blows ice cold for the summer months ahead and hot heat isn't too far away either. The dash shows well, and the center stack below houses functional OEM audio. The driver benefits from a tilt adjustable steering column, and the slim factory steering wheel feels great in the palm as you pilot this delightful cabover down the freeway. The remaining interior materials are all in good nick, from the headliner to the matching brown carpet underneath. As a whole, it's clear to see this van was well cared for in a prior life, and this one should be well suited to whatever adventures await. We even retained the factory Japanese owner's manual!
Toyota's storied 1KZ-TE engine provides the propulsion for this van and boy is it a good powerplant. Ours is also fresh off a recent service and ready to roll for the road ahead. A new 12v battery aids ignition on this 3.0, and this one cranks over the first time, every time. All new serpentine belts were installed to reliably drive the accessories, and a new valve cover gasket was replaced up top so the fresh oil and service could work its best. Peppy around town and comfortable cruisers at speed, these HiAce are quite refined. These rear-drive models benefit from a lighter curb weight and scoot right up to highway speeds without hesitation, too. The automatic transmission is a great pairing for the mid mounted powerplant, and they are both set low in the chassis for decent weight distribution and lower center of gravity. The suspension is soft and compliant over road imperfections large and small, and the brakes chomp down hard when called upon. Lastly, the sleek bronze alloys have been wrapped in fresh Falken rubber, sure to deliver sufficient grip throughout the seasons to come!
