This 1996 Surf is a killer midsize SUV. Packing a punchy and highly efficient turbodiesel, and underpinned by a durable 4WD system, these trucks were built to stand the test of time. This wonderful SSR-X is fresh off a recent service and offered with a mere 143k verified and documented miles. Finished in a subtle, yet classic Desert Dune Metallic (1A5), this Surf is adorned with rear privacy tint and refinished OEM alloys shod with meaty all-terrain rubber. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scratches associated with normal use, the paint is in good nick and this trusty Toyota was obviously cared for in a prior life. For families on the go, weekend adventurers, and even the true off-road die-hard, this Japanese Classic is an ideal option. Reliable, collectible, and easy to service, this all-weather superstar of an SUV won't last long! 

The interior is logically laid out and built with quality materials. The view of the road ahead is clear and commanding as this tall truck sits above traffic. The dash lacks any cracking or fading and houses dual front SRS airbags as standard equipment. The seats are another highlight and stay protected with expensive feeling leather seat covers. The centrally located automatic climate control system blows cold for summer and blazes hot heat for the last few days of winter. Directly below is a modern Kenwood headunit with auxiliary inputs and a multicolor display. It works like a charm, adding a more bespoke soundtrack to your road trip. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column and adjustable lumbar support to find the ideal driving position and there is a slew of electric amenities that make daily use more enjoyable. Those include power windows, power locks, and power mirrors. Even the rear glass powers down into the hatch in case you have a furry friend in need of ventilation. That's not to say the cabin is perfect as we did want to note the tachometer is inoperable. Still on an automatic-equipped vehicle that shouldn't matter much and this thing was obviously loved in Japan in a prior life. 

The easy part about owning this truck is that we had a nearly identical offering here in the states in the form of the 4Runner. Our US model didn't feature the same firebreathing 1KZ-TE, which is a shame, but the suspension, brakes, and running gear are all shared. The 3.0L powering this KZN185 is fresh off an oil and filter service and it churns to life care of a new 12v battery. To ensure the four-banger stays running tip-top, a new engine air filter, and a new fuel filter have been taken care of. The engine is linked to a smooth-shifting automatic gearbox. The transmission makes great use of the massive low-end grunt of the 1K and this bugger rips from stoplight to stoplight. Cruising on the freeway is comfortable too and this diesel example gets much better fuel economy than similar gasoline-powered versions. The selective transfercase has some trick features, namely its locking center differential. The low-range gearset and center locker are a killer combo and these Hiluxes make quick work of sand and mud. The suspension is predictable and boasts tons of ground clearance. One of our trained technicians has replaced the front sway bar bushings, right front inner and outer tie rods, and new trailing arm bushings to refresh the ride quality. The ABS brakes inspire confidence as do the freshly mounted 31" All terrains, sure to deliver plenty of on and off road grip for the road ahead!
