The Impreza STI is a vehicle often associated with towering rear spoilers, boy-racer modifications, and gritty, gravel-flinging rally prowess. While all the above stereotypes are true to some extent, examples like this classic 1996 WRX STi wagon brought a more classy approach to the platform, providing all the motorsport proven performance with a more understated silhouette. Finished in Light Silver Metallic (406), the exterior still stands out from baseline Impreza wagons on the road, with features like dual rear spoilers, a vented aluminum hood, and of course OEM side skirts and rear spats completing this STi's go-fast wardrobe. Rounded off by a set of 17" Enkei RPF1 alloys this off-road warrior has looks that kill, with a recent service in-house and only 137k miles on the clock, she's turn-key ready to rip on or off the tarmac! With AWD performance, timeless looks, and enough space to haul passengers and cargo, the GF8 STi Wagon is nothing less than a true Japanese Classic.

The STi's sporty aesthetic doesn't stop at just the exterior, as the interior also benefits from touches of premium upholstery, and a few race-ready modifications as well! The seats are trimmed in a durable grey cloth with suede inserts. Although the driver's bucket has been replaced with a period-correct Bride Brix bucket, the seats show well overall with no notable rips, tears, or stains on the factory materials aside from some typical age-related peeling atop the door cards, and bolster wear on the Bride. The dash is trimmed in a soft black vinyl to better insulate the cabin, and the fit and finish isn't too bad either, with no signs of any cracks, fading, or pesky UV damage to note! The damage-prone factory steering wheel has been replaced with a sleek suede-wrapped Viilante unit which feels great in the palms of your hands as you pilot this race-inspired hot hatch. An Apex'i boost gauge sits atop the steering column, fully functional so the driver can keep a watchful eye on those boost levels. The lower dash trim is no worse for the wear, and the center stack houses a few useful upgrades, namely Carrozzeria audio and a fully functional digital automatic climate control unit! With Cold A/C on the ready and hot heat not far behind, this all weather wagon can truly be comfortable in all climates without skipping a beat. Power windows, power mirrors, and power door locks are all fully functional and ready to make daily driving a bit easier for those looking to use this as a commuter. The rear bench is versatile, offering a 60/40 split to offer some additional cargo capacity if needed. Overall, there's not much to complain about with this 25-year-old interior, even the headliner and factory carpets have resisted any serious defects over the years. Aside from a nonfunctional audio system, this cockpit is primed and ready for the next driver, and we've even retained the factory spare, owner's manual, and maintenance booklet for the next owner to cherish and protect for this car's future!

Under the hood the EJ20G has proven to be a formidable Subaru mill over the years, with features like a factory closed deck block giving these models a competitive advantage over USDM units, while still sharing most of the parts and serviceability of stateside WRX's! Ours fires up swiftly with the twist of a key, thanks to a new 12v battery, and the factory STi tuned exhaust gives a faint tease of the signature Subaru rumble under hard throttle. A fresh oil and filter service was performed to keep this one topped up on necessary lubrication, and a new oil separator gasket and fresh valve cover gaskets were installed on both ends, ensuring you won't lose a drop of oil! Acceleration is as potent as you'd expect, the factory turbocharger spools instantaneously, and with a close ratio gearbox on board you truly feel like you're Solberg, pummeling through the gears. New spark plugs down the board ensure you won't encounter any pesky operating issues, and she runs and drives right as rain. The drivetrain has been shored up sufficiently in house, with a new left inner tie rod and new front left axle installed to give you some peace of mind as you rip this STi through dirt, snow, and gravel! Of course, no rally rocket is complete without grip, the fresh Falken rubber on all four corners are sure to provide all that and more for tens of thousands of miles to come!
