Interior Overview
The cabin condition is superior to most Prados we see. The Japanese owner clearly cared for this vehicle, and even upgraded the audio to a classy Bluetooth-capable Kenwood touchscreen unit. It sounds great and adds to the modern aesthetic. The pilot can find the ideal seating position courtesy of a tilt-adjustable steering column. The center stack is close by and within arm’s reach and includes a simple-to-operate automatic climate control system. It pipes in cold A/C and piping hot heat so that this rig can be enjoyed year-round. The sightlines are fantastic, thanks to the tall ride height, skinny A-pillars, and low-lying dashboard. The dash lacks any cracking, fading, or distortion. Dual SRS airbags are standard, as are ABS brakes in case you happen to be safety-conscious. Power folding mirrors, electric locks, and power windows all work in typical Toyota fashion, making daily use more enjoyable. The headliner and door cards are in good nick, as are the carpets, which have been protected by the OEM floor mats that go with the truck. The upholstery is in above-average shape. The tan cloth is durable and lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. The rear row split folds and tumbles forward should you need to accommodate large cargo. The side-hinged rear door also creates a wide berth for loading your stowables. Aside from some steering wheel wear its hard to critique the cabin, and we think the new owner will really appreciate the cabin’s quality materials and the overall condition.
Mechanical Overview
This body-on-frame chassis is overbuilt, and the 1KD-FTV engine is legendary. This mill replaces the 1KZ-TE found in the prior generation and is more efficient and powerful thanks to its direct injection system! Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 3.0L churns to life immediately courtesy of a new 12v battery. A new fuel filter and engine air filter were installed as part of the initial tune up, and the four-banger feels hearty as a horse, creating gobs of low-end twist. It slots into gear precisely with its new shifter bushings, and rowing through the gears is a blast. No hitches or grinds affect the gearbox, and the driver has a lot more control over the platform compared to slushbox equipped models. Power is fed to both axles through a full time 4WD system. A center locker and low range can be engaged should you head down the path less travelled, and loose surfaces are no match for this 4WD system. This little Landy sails up to highway merging speeds without breaking a sweat. It’s a good interstate cruiser too, and a host of suspension work has improved the ride immensely. One of our trained techs has replaced the rear shocks, rear upper and lower control arms, front lower control arms, and the front sway bar links and bushings. We didn’t stop there, as we completely overhauled the steering system as well. The steering rack was rebuilt, new fluid was flushed in, and new bushings and boots were installed. We performed an alignment immediately after and replaced the inner and outer tie rods with new ones, so future adjustments would be buttery smooth. Lastly, new 32″ all-terrain tires were mounted and balanced at each corner. The new Falken rubber looks mean, quells road noise, and will deliver thousands of miles of year-round grip for a long time to come. Mechanically and cosmetically, this J90 is a winner, and you can drive it off our lot today!
