Exterior Overview
By design, the Toyota bB is likely the most Japanese vehicle we received in our US market. Known domestically as the Scion xB, these lovable compacts are ideal for daily use as they feature an abundance of cargo space, nimble handling, and tight exterior dimensions, making parallel parking and city use a breeze. Introduced 4 years prior to our stateside examples, this 2000 bB is a looker, finished in Thunder Cloud Metallic (1D2), and boasting Z version bodywork, which includes a standard factory lip kit. Save for a few minor nicks and scrapes, the cosmetics are in above average shape for a vehicle of this vintage, and this bB should have no issues turning heads on the strip. Better yet, the 68k miles on the clock are verified and documented, and indicate this trusty Toyota has more than enough life left in it. The old school is cool again, and this hatchback oozes pizzazz. It’s cooler than a crossover, more stylish than a sedan, and all in all, we think it’s a real Japanese Classic!

Interior Overview
Duck down into the cabin and this bB is more than meets the eye. It’s outrageously spacious inside, offering ample head and legroom for all passengers, and even flat folding seating, to increase utility or sleeping space. Entry to the cabin is easy, with a factory keyless remote. The upholstery is crafted in a tidy mesh cloth, free from stains or tears, and the headliner, carpets, and dash plastics are black to match. The dash cover has resisted any serious damage, cracks, or UV fading. It assumes a prominent position up front and includes a few utility trays to house your belongings. It also houses dual SRS airbags, for safety conscious occupants. The driver can get comfortable behind a tilt adjustable steering column, and centrally mounted instrumentation is easy to read. The center stack sports an easy to use automatic climate control unit, and upgraded Eclipse audio. The sound quality is good for its age, and power windows, locks, and mirrors assist daily use, although the passenger side mirror no longer electronically folds. The rear bench is about the most spacious thing we sell in this segment, and it can fold forward if you need to expand the cargo hold in the rear. The front seats can fold flat too if you want to treat the rear bench like a La-Z-Boy. To protect your investment, the factory carpet mats have been retained, and real enthusiasts will love that the factory color changing instrumentation is included and still fully operable!

Mechanical Overview
Offered in an abundance of domestic Toyota models here, the 1NZ-FE powerplant is worth its weight in gold. It’s a frugal four banger, where parts can be had on the cheap and servicing is even easier. To that point, our trained technicians have given this one a once-over for the road ahead, starting with a fresh oil and filter service, and a new 12v battery which aids ignition. We then dropped in a new engine air filter and fuel filter to smooth out combustion. With the basic tune up out of the way, this bB was ready for its first road test, which the 1.5l aced! Shifts through the 4 speed automatic gearbox are smooth and predictable, and the transmission received a fresh fluid exchange while it was up on the lift here. The suspension is comfortable, and we installed new front sway bar links to help this rolling toaster pass state inspection. The power steering is light and easy to toss about, and ABS brakes were equipped from the factory. The Goodyear tires on all four corners are nearly new, and after a fresh alignment, they should last for a good while. Turn key, ready to rock, and sure to be the envy of every Scion driver on the block, we keep finding more and more to love about these Japanese compacts!
