Interior Overview
The interior is a driver’s delight, packed to the gills with performance modifications, well designed, and equipped with beneficial power equipment for daily use. The pilot can nestle snugly into a confetti Recaro bucket seat, and all the switchgear is at hand and easy to operate. Nestled in the center stack, upgraded touchscreen Kenwood audio features Bluetooth integration, and the sound quality is above average. Adjacent to the headunit, a digital automatic climate control display keeps the cabin supplied with cold A/C and hot heat. The dash is clean, and free of unwanted cracks, distortion, or UV fading. It tucks nicely in the front of the cabin, and a pillar mounted Defi boost gauge helps the driver monitor pressure from the turbocharger. A MOMO steering wheel is leather wrapped and feels solid in the palm, and a passenger SRS airbag is still handy to keep your occupants safe. Power windows, locks, and power folding side mirrors work like a charm too, to assist daily use. The back seats are useful for towing around small humans, and if you need to expand cargo capacity, the seatback folds down to allow access into the trunk. The headliner is clean, as are the leather inserts in the door cards. The carpets have resisted the rigors of daily use and abuse, too, and as a whole we find the cabin to be a nice balance of fun and functional.
Mechanical Overview
Under the hood, the turbocharged SR20 needs little to no introduction. This chain-driven four banger has long been the motor of choice for many a Nissan enthusiast here in the states, and with a list of preventative service performed, ours is primed and ready for its eager new owner. It cranks over with haste, care of a new 12v battery, and settles into a smooth idle after a fresh oil and filter service. New serpentine belts replace some tired old units, and an HKS intake and GP Sports turboback exhaust provide some auditory stimulation. It soars up to highway speeds swiftly, and a close ratio 6 speed manual makes for an engaging experience behind the wheel. We flushed in new gear oil to ensure smooth gear changes, and power is shot directly rearward. We also replaced a left rear wheel bearing to shore up the drivetrain. A factory LSD distributes power in low traction scenarios, and Blitz coilovers keep the chassis planted to the ground and work in tandem with Cusco tower bracing to carry you through the twisties. To get this S chassis safety compliant, we also installed new front caster arms and right rear inner and outer HICAS arms to bolster the factory four-wheel steering. The ABS brakes stop predictably, and brand new tires are the last line of defense between you and the pavement. After a four wheel alignment, you’ll be covered for city commuting, highway cruising, or pummeling down your favorite backroad!
*California Residents: In order to register a Grey Market vehicle in the state of California then it will have to be made CARB compliant first. CARB certifications will have to be performed within the state. Depending on the vehicle and any existing modifications will affect the pricing. Typically CARB compliance will range between 5-10K.
