Exterior Overview
The J90 Prado is a special Land Cruiser. By removing two doors, this model becomes infinitely more unique and sporty than its larger four-door brethren. This 2000 Land Cruiser is a special truck, finished in a brand new coat of Super White (040) paint. Set off by a set of refinished 16″ OEM alloys, optional factory rainguards and an OEM front bumper guard, this rig looks as swell as it drives. Reliable, capable and easy to service, these trucks make terrific daily drivers, wicked weekend cruisers, and decent dedicated overlanders. Having logged only 106k verified and documented miles, it’s safe to say this two-door Prado is just getting broken in. Safe, spacious, and downright cool, this Japanese Classic is at the top of our list for unique sport utilities!
Interior Overview
Access inside the cockpit is made seamless, thanks to functional keyless entry. Pilots of all sizes can find the perfect driving position courtesy of a tilt-adjustable steering column. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading, and dual SRS airbags are standard equipment. Atop the dash is an OEM field monitor that displays information about outside conditions, should you choose to traverse away from civilization. The center stack is close by and easy to reach. Framed in the center is an Alpine radio that fills the cabin with music to supplement your commute. Below, the simple to use climate control system pipes in cold A/C and piping hot heat. The tan upholstery is in good nick and lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. The rear row can tumble forward to create a flat loading area. The rear seats also split-fold and recline, too. The steering wheel is almost mint, and the headliner, door cards, and carpets have resisted major wear and tear over the years. Even the power-folding mirrors, power locks and power windows function as they should, and all in all, it’s difficult to find fault with the cabin as it was well cared for during prior Japanese ownership!
Mechanical Overview
Built on a body-on-frame chassis, this is truly a rugged rig. The same can be said for the engine, which was sold here in the USA. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 2.7L churns to life with the twist of the key, courtesy of a new 12v battery. We replaced the engine air filter with a new one, and then moved on to giving the four-banger a refresh. A new radiator and thermostat were installed to handle the thermal load. New coolant was flushed in, and one of our trained techs repaired the distributor with a new o-ring, so all that new oil doesn’t leak out. The 3RZ is linked to a stout automatic and full-time 4WD system. For low-traction scenarios, a center locker and low-range 4WD are on standby. It gets up to highway speeds without struggling and is a competent freeway cruiser. The suspension was refreshed with new front lower control arms and ball joints. A fresh alignment allows the Prado to track true and the standard ABS brakes feel confident. The power steering is light and easy to articulate, too. Grip is handled by four new Falken tires. The new rubber looks mean, quells road noise, and should last for tens of thousands of miles to come!
