Exterior Overview

It’s hard to find fault with the Land Cruiser 100 series. These rigs are nearly indestructible. They can go anywhere, withstand any climate, and still feel comfortable and composed doing so. We enjoyed an almost decade-long production run of the model here in the USA, but we never got the chassis’ most exciting engine option. Equipped with a durable, strong, and smooth 1HD-FTE, this 2000 turbodiesel VX Limited is a special Cruiser with a penchant for performance! It’s also a stylish machine, finished in White Pearl (057) and set off by aftermarket fender flares, a sleek Ganador exhaust, EGR rainguards, and a 2″ suspension lift. Aside from a few minor nicks in the paint, and a noted replacement of the front right fender, the cosmetics are in above average shape overall, and the snazzy ICON alloys make this Cruiser stand out from the pack. Best of all, the 119k miles on the clock are verified and documented, which is barely broken in for this legendary turbodiesel. Efficient, capable, and comfortable, this Japanese Classic does it all and does it well. They make for great investments, passion projects, and are one of Toyota’s best designs, through and through!

Interior Overview

This Cruiser’s interior gets just about everything right. It’s plush, spacious, and packed to the gills with the top tier build quality you’ve come to expect from Toyota’s golden era. The seats are upholstered in a plush tan cloth. While the seat covers protecting them didn’t survive the better half of two decades, the fabric underneath was shielded from excessive rips and tears. The door cards have leather accents, and the condition of the headliner and carpets is above average overall. The same can be said for the condition of the dash, which houses dual SRS airbags to keep your occupants a bit safer behind the wheel. The center stack features an easy to use climate control unit, which lies adjacent to upgraded Pioneer audio. Bluetooth functionality is on hand, and if you prefer to listen to the raucous turbodiesel, a large power moonroof complements a full slate of automatic power windows. Power folding mirrors and locks are also operable, to assist with daily driving. The rear bench reclines if your passengers need some shuteye, and the cargo hold is in good shape save for some punctures in the carpet. That’s not to say everything is flawless inside, as we wanted to note there are a few carpet and seat stains up front as well. Still, we think Toyota purists and commonfolk will be equally pleased with the cockpit’s condition, and it even includes a few spare keys for the next owner to enjoy!

Mechanical Overview

A Toyota diesel is as good as it gets, but the efficient, torquey, and easy to service 1HD-FTE is the cream of the crop. This 4.2l is an intercooled design, and this one cranks over care of two new 12v batteries. A courtesy oil and filter service was performed, and we replaced the engine air filter and fuel filter to ensure this I6 stays free of unwanted contaminants. With the maintenance performed this hauler drives right as rain, as you’d expect, and the automatic gearbox throws power to the full time 4WD system without issue. The lifted JAOS suspension is compliant, even over larger road imperfections, and we serviced the drivetrain with a transmission fluid service and fresh grease on the front wheel bearings. We also installed new front swaybar links so it would ace state safety inspection. Keeping safety a top priority, we also installed new front lower ball joints, and inner and outer tie rods to keep your power steering in ship shape. This truck starts, steers, and stops as you’d expect and the ride feels luxurious overall, even in a large diesel SUV. Last but not least, we wrapped the ICON alloys in fresh Falken rubber. It’s stylish, comfortable, and should keep you covered for tens of thousands of miles to come!
