Exterior Overview
Amongst the Civics, Integras, and Celicas that dominated FWD performance in the 90’s, Nissan’s Primera never got the shine it deserved, which was a shame, as this 2000 IMPUL 212S/R really shows this chassis’ potential as a performer. Packed to the gills with catalog options and OEM plus goodies, this White MIca (QT1) Primera is set off by IMPUL front and rear bumpers, side skirts, carbon grille inserts, a high-rise rear spoiler, and 17″ IMPUL alloys. The brainchild of Hoshino Racing, this is a special sedan, and the 37k miles on the clock are verified, documented evidence that this P11 was well cared for in a prior life. Save for a few nicks, dings, and spots of paint fade, this special edition is in good cosmetic shape overall, and would be right at home in the driveway of any Nissan fanatic. Sure to standout at any car meet, and equally as fun to carve through backroad twisties, this is one Japanese Classic sports sedan that’s as rare as hen’s teeth!
Interior Overview
The interior is equally as special, fashioned with bespoke IMPUL bucket seats up front, and boasting a full slate of power equipment to make driving in the 21st century a cinch. A passenger SRS airbag is tucked away in the dash, which shows no cracking or fading, and the driver can get comfortable behind a 3-spoke IMPUL steering wheel, which is in good shape save for a few cracks in the leather. The center stack is easily accessible, and frames OEM audio and a factory touch screen that integrates navigation and climate controls. Although the screen has given up the ghost, the controls still work, and A/C and hot heat can pipe in at a moment’s notice. Adjacent to the multifunction display, a factory single din radio still pumps in the tunes. The IMPUL upholstery shows no major rips, stains, or tears, and the door cards, headliner, and carpets are in good shape too. Power windows, locks, and side mirrors are all in good working order and assist daily use. For a 25 year old economy sedan, this Primera has no issues feeling sporty, well-built, and appointed for 21st century daily driving. Save for some cracks in the steering wheel leather, it’s hard to find much to complain about as a whole!
Mechanical Overview
The SR20DE under the hood was offered in a bevy of American models, making parts availability and service a cakewalk here in the USA. Ripe and ready for the road ahead, we’ve refreshed the 2.0 with a recent service, and a new 12v battery was chucked in to aid ignition. It idles with confidence and also benefits from a new engine air filter and fuel filter. A new distributor o-ring keeps all lubricant internal, and with the maintenance performed this Primera is ready to pound pavement stateside. The SR is linked to a sport-shift CVT which has no issues simulating up and downshifts. It reaches highway speeds with ease, and we performed a fluid flush on the transmission to get this Primera up to spec. An IMPUL header-back exhaust is a neat factory option that sounds great under throttle, and this spritely sedan is a treat to putt around! New struts were installed all the way around to replace tired factory units, and we bolstered the suspension with new front swaybar bushings. The steering is nimble and direct, and we installed new front and rear brake pads to make the most of the drilled and slotted IMPUL rotors, which are still in great shape and included on the vehicle. The forged alloys are wrapped in all new rubber, and an alignment was performed to get this Nissan tracking straight for tens of thousands of miles to come!
