Exterior Overview
Toyota has always built the Land Cruiser to be the benchmark for 4WD capability and reliability. Interior Overview
The cabin is massive, well-appointed, and includes the optional third row seating, which brings capacity to eight! Cockpit access is made more seamless thanks to functional keyless entry. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column and electric lumbar support making long road trips much more bearable. The center stack is close by and within arm’s reach. At the top, an Alpine touchscreen headunit resides and is primed to pipe in some tunes. The automatic climate control system below is intuitive to operate and doles out ice-cold air conditioning and piping hot heat when called upon. If you prefer more natural ventilation, a large power moonroof tilts and retracts, the side glass powers down, and the rear quarter glass butterflies outward to supplement air flow. Other electric niceties that make daily use more enjoyable include functional cruise control, power folding mirrors, and power locks. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading, and dual SRS airbags are standard. Hardly seen, the passenger floor well includes an OEM optional rubbish bin that opens with the press of a button. The tan seats are in above-average shape and lack any major rips, stains, or tears. The middle row can split-fold and slide forward to accommodate larger cargo. The rear row can be stowed vertically when not in use. The carpets and headliner are in good shape, and as a whole, this interior is above average in nearly every respect. Even the owner’s manuals, maintenance booklets, and a spare key are included with the purchase of this Landy.
Mechanical Overview
Under the skin, this body-on-frame J100 can hang with the best of them. Its robust platform can withstand loads of abuse, and the same can be said for the 2UZ-FE V8 that provides propulsion. A new 12V battery aids ignition, and a new fuel filter and engine air filter work to maximize power. New hood shocks allowed us to perform an oil and filter service without getting guillotined, and the 2UZ feels healthy as a horse and pulls hard to redline. It’s paired to an automatic transmission that shifts like it should and is geared nicely for interstate cruising. The Full-Time 4WD includes a low range and center locking differential in case an off-road excursion is planned. The Land Cruiser is peppy from stoplight-to-stoplight and gobbles up the freeway miles. The OEM height-adjustable suspension is compliant, and an aftermarket height controller is installed and mounted next to the steering column. The ABS brakes feel confident slowing this massive SUV down at higher speeds. One of our trained techs completely overhauled the steering system. We rebuilt the rack, flushed the fluid, and then installed new inner and outer tie rods so we could dial in the perfect alignment. This beast tracks straight as an arrow, and the new 33″ Yokohama tires are sure to last for tens of thousands of miles to come. Turn key and ready to rock, this low-mileage Toyota should be at the top of your list!
