Interior Overview
The cabin is in good shape and utilizes more premium materials than the S14 that preceded it. More emphasis was placed on safety and Nissan made dual front SRS airbags standard equipment. The dashboard lacks cracking or fading and the center stack includes controls for the digital automatic climate control system. Adjacent, the upgraded Pioneer touchscreen head unit pumps in the tunes and adds a more modern feel to the cockpit. Originally spec’d as an auto, a five-speed was swapped in at some point in Japan. To highlight this update, a classy Razo gear knob was added. The sport mesh seats are in above-average shape and lack any major rips, stains, or tears. The rear bench looks hardly used as well. To make daily use more enjoyable, an adjustable steering column is standard and power folding mirrors, power locks, and power windows all function in typical Nissan fashion. The headliner and carpets are in good shape, and overall, it’s hard to nitpick the cabin.
Mechanical Overview
Under the hood Nissan naturally aspirated SR20DE is primed and ready to go. This 1998cc mill is fresh off a recent service and churns to life quickly care of a new 12v battery. A new fuel pump and filter ensures seamless fuel delivery and a new engine air cleaner helps the four-banger to breathe freely. Combustion is improved further with a set of new spark plugs. The four-cylinder sounds fantastic thanks to a Kakimoto catback and it almost makes you forget there isn’t a turbo! The engine is linked to a five-speed manual with an upgraded clutch. It puts the power down nicely and this rear driver is peppy from stoplight to stoplight and can cruise at sustained interstate speeds without breaking a sweat. One of our trained technicians performed a full overhaul on the suspension. New coilovers were installed and we replaced the front caster arms and inner and outer tie rods were taken care of, too. Freshly aligned, this power steering-equipped S15 tracks straight as an arrow. The 50/50 weight distribution makes spirited driving a blast and this Silvia slows down quickly when called upon. New front brake pads and rotors were installed up front and new rear pads out back. Riding on brand new 17″ tires, this Silvia will provide plenty of grip for tens of thousands of miles to come.
