If you’re familiar with our inventory, you’ll notice our top selling models typically have some form of a US equivalent. For the diesel fanatic that really wants to stand out, this three-door Pajero exceed looks like nothing else on the road today! This unibody sport utility would make for a superb city runabout, weekend trail carver, or dedicated daily driver. Underpinned by a direct-injected turbodiesel, this 1999 Pajero rules the roost and is finished in Satellite Silver (A69). Set off by OEM rainguards and an optional rear spoiler, the factory fresh cosmetics are completely unmolested, save for a few minor chips and dings you’d typically find on a vehicle of this vintage. The redesigned styling is wider and taller than its predecessor, and with 90k miles on the clock this durable diesel is barely broken in. With a spacious interior, classic styling, and a world-class drivetrain, this Pajero is nothing short of a true Japanese Classic.
Interior Overview
As the new millennium trudged forward, so did Mitsubishi’s interior design department. The cabin of this V78 is completely reworked, with updated switchgear, durable sport mesh upholstery, and a full slate of modernized power equipment and safety options to make daily driving feasible. It’s also far more spacious than you’d expect, with a large rear bench that can flip out of the way if you need to make room for additional cargo. The seating surfaces are clean, with no discernible rips, stains, or tears, and the condition extends throughout the hard plastics on the dashboard. The driver gains access to a tilt adjustable steering column, and a wood grain steering wheel to add a bit of luxe. The high dash line gives this truck an honest 4×4 feel, and it houses two front SRS airbags to keep things safe in any emergencies. The center stack is easy to navigate and features a reworked climate control system. Cold A/C and hot heat are in good working order, and if you need to drown out your rearmost passengers, a USDM BOSS audio system has been installed with Bluetooth functionality. Power windows, locks, keyless entry, and power folding mirrors are on hand to assist on your daily commute, and if you prefer a fresh breeze, both rear glass panels butterfly out. The headliner is tidy, and carpets are protected by OEM mats. Prospective purchasers should take note that the rear tool kit didn’t make the trip across the pond, and there are a few stains on the headliner. Other than that, we think it’s really hard to nitpick this classic cabin!
Mechanical Overview
Mitsubishi’s 4M41 is a unique engine that packs in a ton of cutting edge technology for the time. This direct injected diesel maximizes fuel economy, and has plenty of power and torque to hang with the big boys on the interstate. It’s also chain-driven, saving the next owner the headache of keeping up with routine timing belt services. Best of all, our trained technicians have given this one a comprehensive once-over for the road ahead, starting with a new 12v battery that was installed to help the 3.2l fire right up. From there, we tended to a new fuel filter, and performed an oil and filter change. A new engine air filter and fuel filter get you on track for future maintenance, and we installed new accessory belts for your alternator and A/C compressor. With the maintenance performed this big block I4 hops up to highway speeds with ease, and sends power straight to Mitsubishi’s legendary Super Select 4WD transfercase. We changed out the rear differential pinion seal to keep the drivetrain tip-top, and this sweet design lets you jump in and out of 4WD on the fly. The chassis benefits from new front struts and rear shocks to bolster the suspension, and this spritely three door soaks up road imperfections large and small. The power steering is easy to maneuver, and new front brake pads and rotors assist the ABS system. The Pajero platform has its perks, as most driveline parts are shared with our stateside Monteros. Capped off with a fresh alignment, you still have plenty of life left on the current all-terrain tires, to go wherever your heart desires!
