Filled with electric amenities and loads of safety features, this is our most modern SUV in the product portfolio!

Exterior Overview

Lexus didn’t exist in Japan when this 1999 Cygnus rolled off the assembly line. It’s no secret that this model was an upmarket version of the Land Cruiser, with its distinctive front end and upscale interior options. Powered by the same reliable V8 sold in the US, American models have logged over half a million miles with regularity, yet this creampuff is being offered with only 85K verified and documented miles on the ticker. Filled with electric amenities and loads of safety features, this is our most modern SUV in the product portfolio. Finished in a one-off Baikal Black over Metallic Gray, this truck is set off by a 2″ lift, a stylish set of LED tail lamps, an OEM rear spoiler, OEM rainguards, privacy tint, and 16″ Method Racing alloys. Aside from some scuffs, dings, and a spot that’s lost a bit of clear coat on the front right fender, the paint is in good shape, and this 4×4 would be something you would be proud to show off at the local Cars and Coffee. Capable on the trails, yet civilized enough to be daily driven, this terrific Toyota does everything and is in much better shape than your average American LX470!

Interior Overview

The cabin is cavernous and was clearly cared for in its life overseas. Access to it is seamless thanks to a functional keyless entry system. Driver and passenger benefit from powered seats and dual SRS front airbags for some added peace of mind. Equipped to be driven year-round in seasonal climates, this Cygnus boasts heated front seats, an optional power moonroof for added ventilation, and a digital dual-zone climate control system that features ice-cold A/C and piping hot heat. It was also spec’d with a rare and desirable CoolBox center console, keeping your libations cold on long road trips. The sculped dashboard lacks any cracking or fading, and the switchgear is all close by and within reach. Cruise control, power locks, power folding mirrors, and power windows all function and make daily use more enjoyable. The OEM audio works well and supplies the cabin with tunes to supplement your motoring experience, and the sound quality is above average. Unlike most JDM SUVs, this rig comes with tan leather seats. Aside from some normal age-related wear, they lack any major imperfections and are comfortable and supportive. The rear row can also slide forward to accommodate more cargo, and cupholders can be found in droves around the cabin. The door cards, headliner, and carpets are in good shape, and aside from some steering wheel wear, it’s hard to complain about the cabin. Even the owners’ manuals, carpet mats, and original maintenance booklets are included with the purchase.

Mechanical Overview

Under the skin, this Land Cruiser is nearly identical to our US versions. That makes parts and service options plentiful, and these rigs are known to be inexpensive to service. New hood struts were installed so that checking your fluids is a stress-free affair and you can show off that big old V8 without holding up a heavy bonnet. Fresh off an oil and filter change, the 2UZ-FE springs to life courtesy of a new 12v battery. To give it a fresh start here in the States, we installed new spark plugs, an engine air filter, and a new fuel filter. We also replaced the valve cover gaskets with new ones to address some oil leaks that were present. The V8 creates decent power and gets this big girl moving with ease. The automatic gearbox shifts properly, and power is fed through a Full-Time 4WD system. A center locker and low range are on standby, should you have an off-road excursion, and the system is simple to operate. It’s a comfortable highway cruiser and gobbles up potholes with the best of them. The premium feel is likely due to the fact that we upgraded all the suspension. New Eibach shocks and Ironman 4×4 torsion bars bring this rig two inches closer to God, and we also replaced the rear upper and lower control arms. Rear and front sway bar links were installed before its state inspection, and we completely rebuilt the steering rack. New rack bushings and inner and outer tie rods were installed, and a proper alignment was dialed in. New 35″ Falken tires have been mounted and balanced at each corner. They look mean, reduce road noise, and will last for tens of thousands of miles to come. The ABS brakes feel confident, and this tough truck is turn-key and ready for a fun family road trip!
