The final edition we never received, experience firsthand what makes this Japanese Classic so special!

Exterior Overview

The Z32 Fairlady experienced an incredible 10 year production run, and for 1999, Nissan engineers made sure it went out with a bang. This Version R is as good as it gets, finished in White Pearl (QN0), and set off by a factory graphics package, OEM rear mudguards, Xenon headlamps and 18″ BBS LM wheels for an unmatched period correct aesthetic. Tein coilovers close up any unsightly wheel gap, and a factory front lip and rear spoiler complete the cosmetics. With 126k miles on the clock, this Z has tallied a fraction of what stateside examples typically see and frankly has been much better preserved. The final edition we never received, experience firsthand what makes this Japanese Classic so special!

Interior Overview

The bespoke nature of this version R doesn’t just stop at the exterior, it extends into the cockpit as well with vibrant Recaro seats and upholstery. The dash has remained in great nick too, and it’s resisted any cracking, fading, or UV distortion typically found on vechicles of this vintage. Mounted adjacent to the steering wheel, a sought after manual climate control unit is easy to operate and cold A/C is on tap for when you need it most. For fans of natural ventilation, this Fairlady is equipped with a T-Top roof, which easily stores in the boot for warm weather cruising. The 2+2 configuration can cram a couple extra passengers in the leather rear seats if needed although most enthusiasts will opt to make the most of the large hatch space out back. Power windows, locks, and electric folding side mirrors aid daily use, and save for some minor bolster wear, and non functional audio, this is one of the nicest Z cockpits we’ve seen to date. We’ve even retained the factory floormats to help protect your investment.

Mechanical Overview

The VG30DETT under the hood shares parts with USDM models, which should be a breath of fresh air for any eager prospective purchasers. This one was well maintained in a prior life and is fresh off a recent service here, too. We took care of a basic tune-up with a new engine air filter and fuel filter, and an oil and filter service was also performed. We also noticed a slight power draw, and swiftly tossed in a new alternator to address that. An aftermarket exhaust brings out a few extra ponies and has a conservative tone, and this twin-turbo GT is a hoot to drive overall. We even have records from Japan stating the turbochargers were replaced recently, as was the timing belt and water pump. An automatic gearbox commands power delivery and the rear wheel drive platform is balanced and easy to control overall. Tein coilovers aid handling tremendously while also being comfortable, and we rehabbed the drivetrain with new inner and outer tie rods up front and HICAS arms in the rear. With the work performed, she passed state inspection with flying colors, and this Z starts, steers, and stops like a champ thanks to factory ABS. The BBS’ are wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza summer tires. The perfect choice of rubber for the warmer months, they should have no problem delivering grip and traction when needed most!
