However you use it or abuse it, this Cruiser can take it like a pro, which is why it's a real deal Japanese Classic!

Exterior Overview

Across the globe, the Land Cruiser has a reputation for being absolutely unkillable. This 1998 UZJ100 is an example of some of Toyota’s best work, and this stout 4×4 is a killer prospect in the market, with only 125k verified and documented miles on the ticker. Complete with a laundry list of upgrades and preventative maintenance performed, this example was built to satisfy the true Toyota enthusiast. It’s a looker too, finished in one-off Plutonic Black with a custom steel front bumper, a CL. Link front winch, and OEM rainguards. LED tail lamps and a factory rear spoiler round off the aesthetics, and this super SUV boasts brand new Method wheels shod in fresh Falken tires. With a bulletproof V8 under the bonnet, this Cruiser is the full package, and is turn-key ready to tackle all-weather driving or around-town cruising. However you use it or abuse it, this Cruiser can take it like a pro, which is why it’s a real deal Japanese Classic!

Interior Overview

Those who see this 100’s bold and brash exterior may not expect the cockpit to be as polished and comfortable as it is. Toyota was truly on top of their game when penning this cabin, and with a full slate of premium materials, power amenities, and versatile comfort options, it’s easy to see why these Cruisers are still daily driven en masse. The seats are upholstered in a plush tan cloth, with matching material in the carpet and door cards. These complement the soft-touch dashboard nicely, which sweeps the width of the cabin and features dual SRS airbags to keep your passengers safe up front. The driver gains a tilt-adjustable steering column, and wood grain to grip as you pilot down the highway. Upgraded Eclipse audio sounds swell, and adjacent automatic control is intuitive to operate. Cold A/C and hot heat can be funneled in the cabin on command, and dual zones allow for your rearward passengers to stay cool too. Power windows, locks, and electric folding mirrors work like a charm, and there’s even a massive power moonroof up front for those who prefer natural ventilation. The interior upholstery is all in good shape. The dash shows no signs of cracking or warping, and the seats are free of rips or tears. On any 25 year old cabin, perfection isn’t possible, and we’d like to mention an absent vent for the third row HVAC, as well as a missing lens on the driver’s door card. Still, the condition far surpasses our USDM units, and we think the next owner is bound to agree!

Mechanical Overview

Do a quick Google search on the UZ platform and the words “bulletproof” and “million-mile engine” may come up once or twice. This is no joke, as the 4.7l under the bonnet is one of our favorites to work on, and runs like a top. We’ve given this V8 some TLC to get it ready for daily duty here stateside, starting with a new 12v battery that was tossed in to aid ignition, and a fresh oil and filter service. New valve cover gaskets keep all lubricant internal, and we tended to eight new spark plugs while we were in there. A new engine air filter and fuel economy get the most bang for your buck out of the v8, and with the work performed she runs like a top. A Ganador catback exhaust brings some grunt out of the 4.7, and power is thrown to all four wheels via a smooth shifting automatic gearbox, for which we installed a new transmission pan gasket. The 4WD features a selectable low range, and an optional center locker for when the going gets tough. We took care of some necessary drivetrain maintenance to benefit the next owner, and pass state safety inspection. New upper and lower control arms were installed in the rear, as were new swaybar link bushings. The factory adjustable height control suspension works like a charm, and features selectable stiffness settings to keep things comfortable on rougher terrain. The power steering is easy to navigate, and the ABS brakes chomp down with ferocity. The new Method alloys look the part, and with brand new Falken all terrains installed, as well as a fresh alignment, you’ll be on track to cover tens of thousands of miles, on or off-road!
