While it may not get the press of more known models like the Land Cruiser, the Isuzu Bighorn is every bit as good.

Exterior Overview

While it may not get the press of more known models like the Land Cruiser, the Isuzu Bighorn is every bit as good. Sold as the Trooper in the US, this five-seater is powered by a reliable V6 and underpinned by a class-leading Torque On Demand 4WD system. These trustworthy trucks make wonderful campsite crawlers or unique daily-driven family haulers. This lovely 1998 SE is finished in a classic Empire Blue Metallic Over Light Silver Mica (733). Set off by chrome mirror caps, a neat OEM spare tire hard shell cover, OEM rainguards, OEM running boards, and some subtle privacy tint, this classically styled SUV is in good nick other than some minor scuffs, dings, and chips from normal use. Fresh off a recent service, this turn-key rig is offered with an incredible 54k verified and documented miles on the clock. Good luck finding a stateside Trooper having logged such little use! Versatile, practical, and cool, this Japanese Classic 4×4 is a timeless design with a proven track record across the globe!

Interior Overview

The Bighorn is a pretty cavernous SUV. It also is decently safe, with its dual front SRS airbags. The dashboard lacks cracking or fading and is a bit more sculpted than older Isuzus. The driver can find the ideal driving position thanks to a tilt-adjustable steering column. The center stack is close by and features a Pioneer radio upgrade that pipes in some tunes to supplement your commute. Above, the automatic climate control doles out piping hot heat or cold A/C when called upon. For those living in colder climates, heated front seats and heated power-folding mirrors make the daily grind easier. A factory field monitor keeps those within the cockpit abreast of the outside conditions should you lose cell service., Other amenities include functional power windows, door locks, and cruise control. The gray cloth upholstery is in good shape and is mirrored in the door cards. The soft cloth lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. The cargo area is sizable and the split barn doors open wide to swallow your stowables. The headliner and carpets are in good nick and overall it’s clear this rig was cared for overseas. It even has the original brochures, maintenance booklets, a spare key, and owner’s manuals.

Mechanical Overview

Unlike most modern SUVs this old-school bruiser is built on a sturdy body on frame platform. The 75-degree 6VE1 V6 is also a stout unit and is fresh off a recent oil and filter service. It springs to life quickly care of a new 12v battery and the electronics can stay properly powered thanks to a new accessory belt. One of our trained techs has refreshed the engine with new coils, spark plugs, and valve cover gasket so it has a new lease on life. The gasoline powerplant is linked to a stout automatic gearbox. It shifts properly and has been rehabbed with a new oil pan gasket. The unit feeds power through a Borg Warner designed transfercase. The Bighorn can change applied torque depending on what’s required for the road conditions and a 4WD-low is on standby for snow days and beach cruises. It accelerates confidently and gets up to highway merging speeds with ease. A factory cruise control system works like a charm if you are looking to mow down some freeway miles. It slows down quickly when called upon and ABS brakes benefit from new brake pads on the rear. The power steering is direct and on point and the wheels are wrapped in new 31″ Falken tires at each corner. Freshly aligned, it tracks straight as an arrow and the new tires quell road noise and will last for tens of thousands of miles to come.
