Exterior Overview
Interior Overview
Despite the smaller exterior dimensions, the cabin is quite spacious. It’s also well-equipped with power-folding mirrors, electric locks, and power windows. Pilots of all sizes can find the ideal seating position courtesy of an adjustable steering column. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading, and dual SRS airbags are standard equipment. Sitting front and center is a functional OEM Field Monitor that delivers info about outside conditions, direction of travel, and overall trip length. The center stack is close by and includes an automatic climate control system. Ice-cold A/C and piping hot heat are on standby, and a fold-out Pioneer head unit pipes in the tunes. It also includes Bluetooth integration for hands-free use. The seats are trimmed in a textured blue and gray cloth. They lack any major rips, stains, or tears, and the same material is mirrored in the door cards. The rear row can recline, split fold, and tumble forward to create a flat loading floor. Even the owner’s manuals and maintenance booklets are included with the purchase.
Mechanical Overview
This body-on-frame beast is one tough cookie, and the same can be said for the powerplant, the 1KZ-TE. Fresh off an oil and filter service, this intercooled 3.0L jolts to life courtesy of a new 12v battery. A proper tune-up was in order, so we swapped in a new engine air filter, fuel filter, and a fresh A/C belt. The four-banger is linked to a stout automatic gearbox that benefits from a fresh fluid exchange. It shifts like a champ and sends torque through a Full-Time 4WD system. A low range and center locker have your back when you encounter loose surfaces, and we replaced the unit’s front output seal to bolster the driveline. We also heavily refreshed the suspension! All the shocks were replaced so that this rig rides like a dream. We also replaced the J90’s front upper and lower control arms and front lower ball joints. Out back, the rear upper and lower arms were replaced, too. It handles road imperfections with confidence and is nicely insulated from the road. It gets up to highway merging speeds without breaking a sweat, and when you need to slow down, disc brakes and ABS are standard. Additionally, the front brake hoses were replaced and fresh fluid was flushed in for better pedal feel. The power steering is light and on point, and the pump was rebuilt with new seals. The system was flushed with new power steering fluid, and then we aligned this Land Cruiser. The tires are knee-deep in tread, and this baby is ready to hit the road!
