Exterior Overview

You can bet your life the Hilux Surf is going to get the job done. It’s resilient, reliable, and enjoyable to drive for a truck. This SSR-X is powered by a legendary turbodiesel engine, and is turn-key ready to rock. Fresh off a recent service, this 1997 is offered with only 128k verified and documented miles on the clock. Sporting a mean Black (204) over Gray two-tone paint scheme, this truck is accessorized by menacing privacy tint, OEM rainguards, a stylish rear spoiler, gloss black OEM 16″ alloys, and a prized factory rear spare tire swingarm. Aside from some scuffs, scrapes, and dings the body is in good shape and this rig will surely impress everyone at the local Cars & Coffee. Interior Overview

The cabin is in good shape and was cared for in a prior life overseas. The dashboard features dual SRS airbags and a clean layout. The center stack houses a functional touchscreen Eclipse head unit to pipe in the tunes, and a simple-to-use auto climate system is right above it. Cold A/C is on hand, as is piping hot heat, but if you prefer more manual ventilation a large power moonroof can unfurl, and the rear and side windows power down, too. Adjacent to the moonroof controls is an OEM field monitor which displays info about the outside conditions should you lose cell service. Dual SRS airbags are standard for those riding up front and standard ABS adds even more peace of mind. Access to the cabin is gained through keyless entry and the driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column and adjustable lumbar support. Power locks and mirrors make daily use more enjoyable and an electric backup mirror retracts from the spoiler so that you can see the vehicles behind you while parking. The seats are in good shape and the gray confetti-style upholstery lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. The rear seats 4-way recline for ultimate comfort. They also split-fold and can tumble forward flat into the floor to increase cargo carrying capacity. Spacious, well-kept, and nicely optioned, this cabin leaves little to be desired.

Mechanical Overview

Body on frame in its construction, this Hilux is able to take loads of abuse. The same can be said for the 1KZ-TE engine which is fresh off a recent oil and filter service. A new set of serpentine belts keeps the electronics reliably powered and new fuel and engine air filters are on hand, too. Known for its incredible power, fuel efficiency, and longevity, the new Amercian owner will take solace in knowing that one of our trained techs performed a timing belt and water pump service. Good for the next 100k miles, this service saves some serious shekels and is perfect for those looking to hit the road with an immediate road trip. The automatic gearbox makes good use of this engine’s prodigious low-end torque and it shifts just as it should. Peppy about town and comfortable on the highway, the Surf never struggles for more grunt. 2WD delivers the best acceleration but when loose surfaces are in front of you, 4WD can be engaged on the fly. When the most grip is required, a low range and center locker can be used in unison. To slow down new brake pads and rotors were replaced on the front end. The suspension is predictable and has plenty of ground clearance for off-road escapades. Standard power steering is light and easy to articulate and the tidy exterior dimensions of the KZN185 make park jobs a snap. New 31″ Falken tires are mounted and balanced at each corner. The new rubber not only looks mean, but will last for tens of thousands of miles to come.
