Unique, efficient, and powerful it's hard to deny this Japanese Classic's greatness, and its Land Cruiser pedigree speaks for itself!

Exterior Overview

The 90 Series is a lovable rig. It has loads of interior space, boasts refined ride quality, and is underpinned by a trusty 4WD system. This 1997 TX is a wonderful example of the platform and is powered by an incredible intercooled turbodiesel engine. Set off by some OEM rainguards, a factory bash bar, chrome door handles and mirror caps, and some stylish refinished 16″ alloys, the Dark Green Mica (6P3) paint is in fine shape. Aside from a hatch that was replaced in Japan and some minor dings, scratches, and scuffs associated with normal use, there is little to be concerned about cosmetically. Optioned with a desirable third row, this eight-seater would make for a killer family hauler, cool weekend cruiser, or dependable daily driver. Fresh off a recent service, this turn-key rig boasts a scant 83k verified and documented miles on the clock, and this rig is barely broken in! Unique, efficient, and powerful it is hard to deny this Japanese Classic’s greatness, and its Land Cruiser pedigree speaks for itself!

Interior Overview

The cabin is spacious, clean, and nicely equipped. Access to the cabin is granted through functional keyless entry and the ride height allows everyone to slide into their seats easily. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column and both front occupants have dual SRS airbags as standard equipment. To make daily use more enjoyable, power windows, locks, and electric folding mirrors work like a charm. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading and mounted atop it is a functional OEM field monitor that displays information about the outside conditions to those within the Prado’s comfy confines. The gray cabin color is broken up by the stylized cloth upholstery featured on the seats and door cards. The material is soft to the touch and lacks any major wear, such as rips, stains, or tears. The center stack includes functional OEM audio and a simple-to-use digital climate control system. Heat and Cold A/C can be mixed through the cabin and are ideal for those planning to use this Landy year round. The headliner is in good nick and aside from some light carpet staining and a missing console cupholder cover, it’s hard to complain about the interior condition. Even the factory trash receptacle is on hand to dispose of your receipts and miscellaneous clutter, and the original owner’s manual too!

Mechanical Overview

This tough, body-on-frame platform is durable, yet it won’t beat you up! The engine is a legendary mill, too, the 1KZ-TE. Making 20 more HP than its non-intercooled Hilux Surf cousin, this 3.0L is fresh off an oil and filter service. We installed a new 12v battery which should last through several cold winters to come, and like all of our diesels, we replaced the fuel filter. The 1K pulls like a freight train to redline and sends power through a stout automatic gearbox. With standard Full-Time 4WD, plenty of grip is on hand. The selective transfer case was rehabbed with a new front output seal and operates seamlessly. The unit allows the driver to engage a center locker and low range when extra traction is required. It gets up to highway speeds with ease and driving at sustained interstate speeds is more comfortable than most SUVs we sell. It also slows down quickly thanks to new front brake pads and rotors. For those living in snowy climates, ABS is standard, and adds some peace of mind. The soft suspension gobbles up small and large potholes alike. One of our trained techs replaced the rear shocks and also took care of new front swaybar bushings and links. Additionally, new inner and outer tie rods replaced the old worn units, and we chucked on some new steering boots while we were in there. A fresh alignment ensures the brand new 31″ Falken tires last as long as possible and the Prado goes right where you point it. The steering is light and easy to articulate thanks to a rebuilt rack, and this rig has passed its Virginia state safety inspection with flying colors. Smooth on the pavement and a beast off the beaten path, this dual-use Toyota is ready to roll!
