Honda's Torneo was a short-lived model, bringing sport-sedan looks and handling to the ever popular Accord platform. Offered in three performance oriented trims, the Torneo accepted no compromises in the realm of power, and this 1997 SiR model had the equipment to get it done, using a punchy F20B VTEC engine and short-geared automatic transmission. Finished in Vogue Silver (NH-583M), the exterior definitely stands up to the sport sedan designation, with some subtle OEM aero giving this four-door enough flair to stand out from commuter-spec Accords. Wider bodywork gives this sedan a menacing profile, and OEM front and rear lips and a low rise spoiler consummate the looks of this sleek silver bullet. With only 70k verified/documented miles on the clock this Torneo is fresh off a recent service and ready to keep chugging along for tens of thousands of miles of staunch Honda reliability. For fans of unique sport sedans, this is one underrated Japanese Classic that's worth a shot!

The interior is clean and was clearly well kept by its prior Japanese owner. Like other sedans of the time, this cabin packs all the quality and amenities you've come to expect from Honda, with features like standard dual SRS airbags providing plenty of safety behind the wheel. The OEM patterned cloth upholstery shows nicely, with no notable rips, tears, or stains to be found. Aside from some minor bolster wear on the driver's seat the cabin is definitely in great shape for its age, as evidenced by the crack-free dash and clean complementary tortoise trim. The center stack houses functional OEM audio and a simple to use automatic climate control unit, ripe with hot heat for those upcoming winter months. The A/C works too if you're looking to fly south for the winter. We're certainly spoiled with power amenities here at Japanese Classics, and this Torneo follows suit, with power windows, power locks, and power folding mirrors all functional and at the ready. The rear seats are in good nick and should transport three additional passengers with no hesitation, and the trunk has plenty of additional cargo space. Aside from a missing spare, and some light bubbling on the dash from a prior phone mount installation, there's not much to gripe with when it comes to interior condition, and the original owner's manual and numerous maintenance booklets are on hand to further protect your investment! We even retained the factory carpeted floor mats which will keep the original carpet free from spills and stains.

American Hondas of the time were never spoiled quite like the brand's Japanese lineup, and the power-packed F20B DOHC under the hood further exemplifies that statement. With a screaming 7400 RPM redline and 198 ponies under the hood this compact commuter really packs a punch! The motor fires up with a twist of the key, care of a new 12v battery, and idles confidently. Our technicians have performed some key maintenance on this one to keep it up to snuff, with a fresh timing belt, water pump, and tensioner. We've also resealed the motor, topping it off with a fresh valve cover gasket to ensure you won't sweat a drop of lubricant. The transmission shifts smoothly and the pseudo-sequential manual mode works flawlessly! The suspension is compliant and surprisingly soft for such a sporty sedan. A replacement of the front left axle boot gives the driveline a slight refresh, and we've even mounted and balanced four new Falken tires to keep road noise down and deliver plenty of grip for the road ahead!
