Finished in Azure Blue Pearl (8L6), our 1996 SSR-G is backed by a stout turbodiesel drivetrain and is set off by an optional front brushguard, OEM rainguards, and a Japanese exclusive spare tire swingarm. To modernize the aesthetic, we've refinished the lower section in a one-off gunmetal grey, and save for some light chips, dings, and clearcoat fade this truck is a looker through and through. Better yet, the 114k miles on the clock are verified and documented, which is a mere fraction of what most stateside examples have gone through. Fun to drive, easy to own, and even easier to brag about, we love this best selling Japanese Classic!The interior was designed to endure the test of time, and the durable Moon Mist looks hardly worn! The seats are in great shape overall, with nothing more than some light bolster wear from day to day use, and the vinyl dash has resisted most of the cracking, fading, and UV distortion commonly seen on these models. The center stack is trimmed in a complementary woodgrain pattern, and houses automatic climate control and a touch screen Panasonic headunit. With Bluetooth functionality, your tunes can pump through the cabin with ease and the A/C and heat work well as far as the HVAC is concerned. For daily use, a full slate of power amenities is surely beneficial. Power windows, locks, and electric folding side mirrors all work as advertised, and an optional field monitor is useful for real-time weather reporting on the road. Dual SRS airbags are standard, and these third generation models were bolstered with additional side supports in the doors to keep your occupants safe in case of an emergency. The rear bench can fold down to create a flat loading floor, and the rear window slides up and down electronically if you need to shove some lumber through the back. We've even held onto the factory owner's manual and OEM carpet mats to protect your new JDM investment!The 1KZ-TE under the hood was designed to take a licking and keep on ticking, and with a comprehensive service performed, this 3.0D shows no signs of stopping anytime soon! Best of all, we've refreshed the brains of the operation with a freshly rebuilt ECU, so you need not worry about pesky electronic failures throughout the course of your ownership. A lifetime transferrable warranty is included with the ECU, which adds a lot of value! A new valve cover gasket was installed, and fluids were topped off with a fresh oil and filter service. The turbo delivers a formidable grunt down low, and the automatic gearbox is nicely spec'd for stateside highway driving. Power is sent rapidly to the rear axle, and selective 4WD can work on the fly if you encounter any loose surfaces. A center locker and low range 4WD gearing work to keep momentum moving forward in low traction situations. The suspension was also given a full refresh. Both upper and lower control arms were replaced in the rear, and we changed out the rear shocks to assist on-road comfort. We changed out the front swaybar bushings with new ones to get the handling in compliance, and this Surf now starts, steers, and stops like new! The factory alloys are freshly refinished and wrapped in brand new Falken rubber.
