The 3rd generation Toyota Hilux Surf, known here stateside as the 4Runner, is one of the most sought-after trucks on the market. This 1996 Toyota is a perfect example of a well-maintained, reliable, safe, and spacious hauler. With only a mere 96k verified and documented miles, this rig is only just now getting broken in. Best of all this model is nearly a twin to our 4Runner so parts and service expertize are readily available in the USA. Originally finished in an Evergreen Pearl (751) ours was updated with a new coat of TRD Army green in the US. While the jambs are still the OEM color, the body is in good shape with only a few minor blemishes and is set off by an OEM brushguard, factory rainguards, and painted factory alloys. Recently serviced and legally imported this capable yet refined Hilux turns more heads than vehicles double its price tag! For those who want to own one of Toyota's most iconic and bulletproof designs, this SSR-G is a truly incredible Japanese Classic.

This rig comfortably seats 5 with leg and headroom to spare once everyone is aboard. The driver's view is clear of the road ahead and the gauges are easy to read at a quick glance. Automatic climate control, for cold A/C or some heat, is on-demand with the touch of a button. The SSR-G does include an overhead compass and altimeter to help you navigate if you decide to take the path less traveled. The seats are upholstered in soft grey cloth and lack any major rips, stains, or tears. The door cards look equally good, and the headliner is also in good standing, showing no sagging or stains. The dash is clear of any bubbling or cracking over time, and the N185 also comes equipped with dual SRS airbags for added safety. The OEM audio was replaced with a more current Carrozzeria unit that works like a charm. Other conveniences are the optional power-folding mirrors, electric locks, and power windows, The SSR-G does come with an adjustable rear mirror but when we tested it, it was inoperable and we wanted to note that. These all function and make daily use more manageable. Drivers' lumbar support and an adjustable steering column also ensure maximum comfort for anyone behind the wheel. If originality is important, we also are including the factory owner's manual located in the glovebox. The seats will split 60/40 to give you more added cargo space if you desire and if you have a 2x4 run, the rear hatch can power down into the tailgate. Overall the cabin is tidy and obviously well cared for by its previous owner, and it shows,

The powerplant that propels this Hilux surf is the 5VZ-FE V6 engine, paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Gear changes are seamless and this gutty engine gets this Surf moving up to highway speeds without breaking a sweat. Maintenance is easy since this engine was offered here in the states in our 4runner models as noted above. These engines have a track record of running over 300K miles which is not surprising because it's a Toyota. Off of a fresh oil and filter service, this surf fires right up thanks to the new 12V battery. Other maintenance performed while in our shop include a new engine air filter, 5 new Falken tires, then a 4 wheel alignment to bring everything together. The suspension is responsive and forgiving when you go over potholes large and small. For the off-road crowd, this SUV is more capable than its US counterpart thanks to a standard center locking differential. For use on sand or trails, this setup will pay dividends. On the tarmac, the braking response is confident and helps slow you down, even an abrupt stop, with ease. These well-designed trucks lack many squeaks and rattles compared to their predecessors and this one would be an ideal daily driver.

This stunning Hilux makes plenty of sense to own and enjoy. Besides the striking styling, this one is collectible, refined, and capable to boot. Offering a carefree ownership experience and plenty of safety and power amenities, this Hilux Surf is a truly great Japanese Classic.
