This 1996 Hilux Surf is a good old fashioned honest SUV. It's not meant to coddle those within its spacious cabin and it isn't the most technologically advanced thing in the world. It's durable, powerful, efficient, and built to stand the test of time. Finished in a Desert Dune Metallic (1A5), this SSR-X is also stylish, with its OEM rainguards, privacy tint, and graphite-colored refinished factory alloy wheels. Boasting a mere 140k verified and documented miles, this turbodiesel beaut is barely broken in and has a reputation for taking some serious abuse. Loved for its bulletproof and collectible nature and low cost of ownership, we at the dealership realize these N185s will only go up in value, especially the 1KZ-powered ones! From daily driven family haulers to the off-road trail truck build you always desired, this full spectrum Japanese Classic can truly do it all!

The cabin is packed full of features for drivers and up to five passengers. Everyone has space, and those in the rear enjoy 4-way reclining seats, unlike our cheaper US 4Runners. The upholstery is in good shape and lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. The durable cloth is fashionable and supportive, and the driver benefits from an adjustable lumbar support. The rear seats fold all the way forward if you have a puppy or need to catch a nap, and the rear window even power retracts to provide additional ventilation throughout the cabin.  A tilt-adjustable steering wheel is helpful to accommodate pilots of all sizes and electric windows, door locks, and side mirrors function properly, making daily use enjoyable. A power moonroof is even on hand if you prefer to catch some rays out on the trails. Dual front SRS airbags and ABS brakes are standard for those who may be safety conscious, and the Surf offers decent outward visibility. The dashboard is in good shape and lacks the top distortion which can plague these models. To keep comfortable within the cabin, automatic climate control is standard and works like a charm. Cold A/C is ideal for this long summer ahead and this one is nice and frosty. The heat works too, as does the Kenwood TV head unit which can pump the tunes and sounds decent for its age! Meteorology enthusiasts and aspiring overlanders will appreciate the functionality of the factory digital field monitor, which displays a slew of outside conditions at a moment's notice. The carpets are protected by the OEM carpet mats and the door cards and headliner are in fine shape. That's not to say the interior is perfect as there is some light wear on the touch surfaces and some typical wear on the driver's armrest. Still these are minor items, and it's obvious this car was cared for in Japan, and it shows.

The cabin is ergonomic and well-appointed, yes, but the drivetrain and platform are absolute all-stars. This body-on-frame SUV is powered by one of Toyota's most legendary powerplants. The 1KZ-TE starts up immediately care of a new 12v battery we installed here in the shop. It is fresh off an oil and filter service and is good for another 3,000 miles and some change! The 3.0L is punchy and efficient and a new engine air filter and fuel filter will keep things that way. To spruce up the four-banger one of our trained techs has replaced the serpentine belts and old weary valve cover gasket with a new one. If the new owner wants to drive this rig off the lot, our 30-day tags are free of charge, and this warrior would welcome a road trip right out of the box. The automatic gearbox can hold up to the rigors of daily use and abuse and is a hearty unit. It's mated to a selective transfercase with a trick, OEM center locker. The predictable suspension provides loads of ground clearance, insulates well from poor pavement, and the power steering is light and on point. The brakes are quick to slow this beefy Hilux down from interstate speeds thanks to new front brake pads and rotors. The 16"s are wrapped in new Falken all-terrain rubber at all four corners. The new 31s do great on loose surfaces and will provide tens of thousands of miles of grip to come!
