Exterior Overview
We cut our teeth importing models like the Nissan Skyline, and even as the market shifts, scarcity persists, and collectibility increases, it remains an attainable, versatile, and downright fun to own Japanese Classic. The R33 model is one of our top picks for daily use and ownership. It’s comfortable, stylish, and a fair bit more affordable than its younger R34 brother. Finished in Cloud White (QM1), our 1996 is a looker too, sporting a host of cosmetic upgrades, like an East Bear 400R style front bumper, Type M optional side skirts, and an OEM GTR rear wing. BBS RS2 alloys are mounted on all four corners, and with this top-dollar aesthetic, this R33’s curb appeal is unparalleled. Save for a few small nicks and dings on the body, the cosmetics are in far above average shape compared to your average 90’s Nissan. The 75k miles on the clock are as good as gold too, and help this R33 maintain its collectibility. With Skylines like this, it’s hard to go wrong. The driving experience is second to none, the cabin is comfortable enough to drive daily, and with looks that can win over onlookers at any Nissan Cruise in or mega-meet, it goes without saying that this one is a bonafide Japanese Classic!
Interior Overview
If you want to cruise comfortably on your daily commute, keep a couple passengers in tow for Cars & Coffee, and still be able to maintain full command over your controls on demanding drives, this R33’s interior does all that and more. This cabin features premium materials, useful safety features, and an accessible center stack, which has digital automatic climate control and Bluetooth-equipped Panasonic audio on standby. For seasonal cruising, cold A/C or hot heat can kick on at a moment’s notice, and if you prefer to listen to the great outdoors, both power windows work as advertised. Further assisting daily use, the electric locks and side mirrors work well too. A tilt-adjustable steering column gives ample real estate behind the wheel, and the driver benefits from a leather wrapped MOMO steering wheel, and an upgraded Recaro driver’s seat, sourced from an Evolution 7. Your passenger can also stay safe with a front SRS airbag. The interior upholstery is in decent shape overall, if you can see past some light wear to the driver’s bolster, and the remaining materials are in good shape, from the headliner to the carpets beneath. The rear seat can squeeze in a few additional passengers if needed, and we have no burning critiques about this cabin, save for the mirrors no longer electronically folding. Even a suite of Defi gauges is present and fully functional to help the next driver keep a close eye on engine vitals.
Mechanical Overview
Under the hood is a glorious powerplant. Prized for its ease of service, balanced powerband, and rock-solid construction, the RB25DET is ready to perform, and our trained technicians have given this one a recent service consisting of some necessary repairs and beneficial preventative maintenance. To start, a new 12v battery was installed to aid ignition. A new fuel pump and filter were installed to keep petrol flowing freely, and we went ahead and popped on a new timing belt for good measure. This should keep you covered for long-term service schedules, and with a Blitz intake, front mount intercooler, and HKS catback exhaust, this 2.5T is as rewarding to listen to as it is to drive. A Tomei turbo elbow and HKS wastegate squeeze a few more PSI’s out of the factory snail, and a Blitz boost controller is on hand to dial it all in. This RB screams to redline, and shifts are handled through a smooth shifting manual gearbox. An aftermarket clutch can stand up to excessive use and abuse, and the transmission is fresh off a fluid exchange. It shoots the power rearward, and this Skyline cruises comfortably, even at higher speeds. Cusco coilovers keep the chassis planted in the twisties, and new front caster arms and swaybar links were installed to help this R33 ace state inspection. The HICAS steering operates predictably, and the brakes benefit from new pads and resurfaced rotors up front, and all new rotors and pads in the rear. To make sure traction is prioritized and you stay locked down in the twisties, we wrapped the BBS’ in all new tires, and performed a fresh four wheel alignment to make the most of all of our good reconditioning!
