1996 Pajero Junior
Available for: $8,495
The Pajero Junior is a fun, unique, and peppy little runabout. It offers 4WD, a surprisingly spacious cabin, and enough power to get up to highway speeds! This 1996 is offered with a mere 101k verified and documented miles, and is fresh off a recent service. Finished in a stellar Green Metallic over Beige two-tone (L79) the body is in good shape aside from some light dings, scuffs, and chips associated with normal use. The OEM rainguards and factory fog lamps add a bit of flair and this mini-ute gets more looks than many of our sports cars. As an affordable, reliable, all-weather hauler this little Mitsu fits the bill and is truly a special little Japanese Classic!
Despite the tiny exterior dimensions, the cabin feels pretty big. That's largely due to the massive head and shoulder room the front occupants share. The view of the road ahead is clear and unobstructed, and if you didn't glance behind you, you'd think it's a regular-size crossover. The dash is in good nick and lacks any cracking or distortion. A digital field monitor keeps the driver abreast of the outside conditions and direction of travel. Surprisingly a driver-side SRS airbag is standard and this little Junior includes power windows and locks that work like a charm. The tan cloth is soft to the touch and is subtly textured. The material lacks any major rips, stains, or tears and are supportive. The rear seats are admittedly on the smaller side and they have the ability to lay flat to accommodate more cargo. The headliner, door cards, and carpets have been well cared for and resisted any major damage. A simple to use, manual climate system with A/C is on hand to keep cabin temps regulated and the OEM audio system works flawlessly. That's not to say the cabin is perfect as the power mirrors need to be manually adjusted at this point but at 25 years of age it's a bit of nitpicking.
Under the hood, a hotshot 1100cc four-banger churns out plenty of ponies. The 4A31 is fresh off an oil and filter service and boasts a new set of serpentine belts installed by one of our trained technicians as well as a new 12v battery. Power is sent through a selective transfer case and the driver can choose two or four-wheel drive depending on the outside driving conditions. Low gearing is also an option if you encounter some rough terrain or loose surfaces and the automatic transmission shifts seamlessly and is a good option for daily use. We performed a transmission service as well, to keep the powertrain feeling fresh and there is very little slack in the driveline. Acceleration isn't half bad and while we don't recommend long highway trips, the Pajero is capable of those speeds. The brakes are responsive and the suspension is surprisingly supple and decent for daily use. The six-spoke factory alloys are all wrapped in brand new tires at all four corners. They will last for tens of thousands of miles to come while providing year-round grip and quiet down the ride noticeably!
