We often get asked about the cheapest and easiest way to get into a durable diesel SUV with a 3rd row. Models like this 1996 Pajero are the answer, and our 52k verified mile example is as good of a unit as any. Underpinned by a trusty 2.8l turbo diesel drivetrain with enough features and amenities to stand up to daily driving in the modern age, this "Field Master" model is well equipped and a great rig for day to day use. Finished in Seattle Silver (A71), the exterior looks nice overall and is set off by dark blue accent trim, a nifty factory brushguard with integrated amber driving lamps, and 16" factory alloys wrapped in meaty Falken rubber. This truck drives well, looks even better, and all in all is a certified Japanese Classic you won't want to miss.
The interior on this one is clean, spacious, and offers up more than enough room for you and the whole family. The seats are trimmed in a durable blue cloth and have fortunately stood up well to any unwanted wear and tear over the years. Seating arrangements are versatile. The middle row can recline slightly for added comfort and can also stow completely forward if you wish to retract the 3rd row seating against the d pillars and gain some extra storage space. The remaining interior materials are in good nick, from the headliner to the carpet beneath. The dash is free of any unwanted fading, peeling, or other miscellaneous damages, and the driver benefits from a tilt adjustable steering column for some added comfort behind the wheel. For any aspiring off-roaders, the factory field monitor sits atop the dash and monitors various environmental conditions. Positioned directly below is functional OEM audio and a simple to use digital automatic climate control system as well. The A/C blows frigid, and hot heat isn't too far behind if you choose to traverse this one through the tundra. Power windows, power folding mirrors, and power locks work as advertised. Overall, this cabin offers up ample space for all and is in above average condition, save for an intermittent fuel gauge. It's clear to see this one was well cared for in a prior life, and to further protect your investment we've retained the factory owner's manual.
Under the bonnet, the 4M40 turbodiesel that powers this rig is a punchy, responsive powerplant that's just as durable as the more popular Toyota models we sell. Ours is fresh off an oil and filter service and cranks right over, thanks to two new 12v batteries we installed in house. Helping maintain a smooth idle is a new fuel filter, and this one drives as if it just rolled off the showroom floor! Acceleration is sufficient, and the automatic gearbox is well geared for highway driving and puts power down to all four wheels with ease. The factory Super Select 4WD transfercase is easy to operate and allows the driver to switch between two and four wheel drive even at speed! The suspension glides over bumps and divots in the road silently, and the brakes bite hard if an abrupt stop is required. The factory alloy wheels are shod in Falken A/T tires that grip strong and have plenty of life left for the road ahead!
