Exterior Overview
Japanese luxury sedans are a tried and true segment. Unlike their German counterparts, they champion reliability over opulence, and still manage to look good doing it. Perhaps Nissan’s best grand touring sedan was one never offered here in the USA. This 1996 Cedric is a cherry example of the chassis, and touts an impressive 73k miles on the clock. It’s also a looker, finished in Arctic White Pearl (QN0), and set off by a EuroU front lip and side skirts, 18″ Weds Maverick wheels, aftermarket coilovers, privacy tint, and custom FRP eyelids. Save for a few rock chips and dings, the cosmetics are in good shape overall, providing a subtle VIP aesthetic that enthusiasts yearn for. Simple, reliable, and stylish throughout, it’s easy to see why these sedans are fan favorites, and Japanese Classics!
Interior Overview
Nissan was in the midst of a renaissance in the late 90’s. Cabin designs were improved tenfold over previous models and many would argue they were cutting edge for the time. This Y33’s interior is no different, finished in a plush grey cloth, and accented by woodgrain flair and soft-touch materials. The driver benefits from added seating adjustments and a tilt adjustable steering column. The cockpit is also optimized for safety, with dual SRS airbags included up front. Daily driving is made simple thanks to functional power windows, locks, and electric folding side mirrors. If you want to roll the windows up and take full advantage of the automatic HVAC, cold A/C and hot heat work as expected. Adjacent to the control panel, OEM audio sits front and center and sounds decent for its age. The upholstery is in good condition throughout, and the materials have resisted major wear and tear. In fact, the only thing to gripe with is a broken ashtray, which is stuck open. The headliner and carpets are clean, and overall, we think the next owner will thoroughly enjoy its condition.
Mechanical Overview
The VG20E under the bonnet is a simple design, and it shares a bevy of parts with US Nissan models. This is great news for prospective owners, and for us, as we’ve already serviced this unit to pass state inspection and get you on track for the road ahead. The 2.0l fires up with ferocity, and settles into a smooth idle after a fresh oil and filter service. Acceleration is decent through this V6, and an automatic gearbox shifts smoothly and sends power straight to the rear tires. We overhauled the suspension with all new aftermarket coilovers, and installed new front sway bar links and caster arms to help this Cedric ace its state inspection. This Y33 is a dream to drive. It’s smooth over road imperfections, and the power steering is featherweight. New rear brake pads and rotors keep stopping distances to a minimum and the WEDS are wrapped in Goodyear rubber. Fresh off an alignment, this flashy four door tracks straight as an arrow, and looks great doing it!
