Japanese SUVs have much more charisma than our Stateside SUVs. This 1996 Land Cruiser is a unique, capable, and reliable rig. The fact that is a three door model alone makes this 90 Series a standout, and this example is complimented by an snazzy OEM brushgaurd, Bosch oversized fog lamps, and a set of refinished OEM alloys wrapped in new Falkens. Aside from a few light dings, chips and scuffs the body is in good shape and this 4x4 is fresh off a recent service. Best of all, this Toyota has logged a scant 39k verified and documented miles, which is likely why it's in such good nick. Powered by the same bulletproof V6 as our domestic 4Runners, this VZJ90 is inexpensive to service and easy to maintain. Perfect as a dedicated daily driver, weekend trail toy, or trusty family hauler, this Japanese Classic is truly special.
The interior is in above average shape and this truck was obviously cared for in a prior life overseas. The tall ride height allows the driver to see over traffic and the dashboard lacks any cracking or fading. Atop the center stack sits a new USDM Boss radio that supplies a sweet acoustic soundtrack to compliment the V6 under the hood. It is also Bluetooth compliant for those looking to keep your hands safely on the wheel. Speaking of safety, dual front SRS airbags are standard as is anti-lock braking. Keyless entry allows the driver to unlock the vehicle for any guests, and power windows, power folding mirrors and the electric locks work like a charm. The driver also benefits from a tilt adjustable steering column to find the ideal driving position. For year round use, the digital automatic climate system can supply cold A/C and piping hot heat to those inside the RX. An optional power sunroof tilts and retracts, and the rear glass pops out if you prefer more natural ventilation. The seats and door cards lack any major rips, stains or tears and the rear row can tumble forward to accommodate additional cargo. The rear door is side hinged to provide a wide loading area, and the cargo area and the headliner are both in good condition. The carpets have resisted major abuse over the years aside from some light staining. That's not to say the cabin is perfect as we wanted to note some light wear on the steering wheel, a non functional Field Monitor, and some loose fabric on the bottom of the driver seat. Still, the cabin is in above average shape as a whole and even the owner manuals are included with the purchase.
Under the skin, this body on frame vehicle is a true truck based SUV, not a soft-roader. The 5VZ-FE engine is a gem, and the 3.4L is fresh off a recent oil and filter service. It churns over promptly thanks to a newly installed 12v battery. The quad cam mill breathes freely thanks to a new engine air filter and is linked to a stout automatic gearbox. Improved with new shifter bushings, the transmission shifts properly and feeds power through a FullTime 4WD system. For off road excursions low gearing is available and a center locker can be utilized to fix power 50/50 front to rear. The suspension offers loads of ground clearance and some aggressive departure and approach angles. Improved with new rear lower shock bushings, it can handle the rigors of daily use and abuse and gobbles up large and small potholes alike. The ABS brakes are responsive and the power steering is light yet direct and one of our trained techs replaced the front sway bar bushings while it was up on the lift. New 31" Falken tires supply all the grip you will need for tens of thousands of miles to come.
