The CR-V is a loveable, reliable cross-over that can be used year-round thanks to its trusty all-wheel drive and inexpensive cost of ownership. It's almost the perfect size and despite the tight exterior dimensions, has plenty of room for five and is frugal on fuel. This 1996 is finished in Zinc Silver Metallic (NH-595M) and accented with a factory brush guard and a set of tinted rain guards. The body is in good shape aside from some minor dings and scuffs associated with normal use. Recently serviced, and legally imported, our example has clocked a mere 124k documented and verified miles on the chassis. As a multipurpose vehicle, this little Honda is tough to beat and makes for a practical and affordable Japanese Classic!

The cabin showcases Honda's superior ergonomics compared to their competition at the time. Storage can be found in abundance, from the dual gloveboxes to the door cards and the area behind the passengers. Was it a little over the top to include a picnic table and 12v charging capacity in the boot? Perhaps, but it's certainly cool. We feel the same way about the A/C but in a more literal sense. The automatic climate control is simple to use and blows cold A/C to help cope with the current summer heat. The dash design is uncluttered and the lack of audio is a quick and easy fix if you'd like some tunes. The dashboard itself is neither cracked nor distorted unlike many models of this age. The seats are comfortable and upholstered in gray textured cloth. They are still soft to the touch and lack any major rips stains or tears. The carpets are still in good nick and the door plastics and headliner don't have any major blemishes. Even the OEM floor mats have been cleaned up and are included for the next owner.

The mechanicals are among the most reliable Honda ever built. There is a major reason why there are still so many of these things running around and the mid-nineties showcased Honda's superior drivetrain build quality. This fun runabout is powered by the venerable B20B four-cylinder. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 2.0L starts up promptly with a twist of the key. To keep the oil on full we replaced the old leaking valve cover gasket with a new one. Also, a new 12v battery has been installed that will last for years to come and provide plenty of voltage in the cold winter months. The engine idles confidently thanks to a new distributor and is connected to an automatic gearbox. The transmission shift seamlessly and the little CR-V manages to accelerate more than adequately up to highway speeds. The suspension is capable of handling the rigors of daily use and returns a decent ride. We did want to note that the suspension is a bit louder than when this thing was new but isn't bad enough that to be distracting or jarring. The OEM silver alloy wheels are wrapped in new all-season tires at all four corners. They will last for tens of thousands of miles and quiet down the ride nicely.
