We're known for retailing some unique and capable trucks, but this 1996 might just take the cake. We have been getting loads of requests for rough and tumble off-road rigs, and this Area 51 Blue (KU) bedlined Surf would be a perfect toy for wheeling, the occasional car show, or even put to task for daily duty. Set off by some color-matched refinished alloy wheels, subtle privacy tint, and oversized Falken rolling stock, this Toyota is offered with a mere 167k verified and documented miles. For those unwilling to wait, our diesel ute is turn-key and ready to rock, fresh off a recent service. Efficient, powerful, and fun to drive, these lovable 4x4s are skyrocketing in value and are certified Japanese Classics for a reason.

The cabin is spacious and offers many power amenities. The driver will be happy with the tall driving position and decent outward visibility the cabin provides. To find the ideal driving position, a tilt-adjustable steering column is standard, as is the driver adjustable lumbar support. Both occupants out front can rest assured knowing dual SRS airbags are on hand. Directly in front are the controls for the automatic climate system. For use during these last few cold mornings, the heat can be dialed up, as can the A/C, for the summer ahead. The Moon Mist colored cloth is durable and lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. The middle row can be folded flat should you need to accommodate sizable cargo or catch a quick roadside cat nap. Power windows, locks, and mirrors are all in good working order and make daily use enjoyable. Even the rear hatch glass powers down for the occasional haul of 2X4s from the local Lowes. The Clarion TV/Nav head unit steals the show, and looks more modern than the base units we see in our Surfs. It functions too, supplementing the diesel soundtrack emanating from the engine bay with a few tunes. The carpets, door cards, and headliner are all in fair shape and have resisted major abuse over the years. That's not to say the cabin is perfect as we did want to note the tachometer is inoperable, and there is a small portion of the dash that is warped next to the glovebox. On the positive side, everything else seems well taken care of and we even have the original owner's manual included in the sale.

The 3.0L 1KZ-TE powering this rig is a beast of an engine. With examples regularly logging half a million miles, they are known for being nearly bulletproof, and outperform their gasoline counterparts. Ignition is quick thanks to a new primer pump replaced by one of our trained technicians. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 3.0L churns to life care of a new 12v battery. Four new glow plugs replaced the tired old ones and will be good for even the coldest winter snaps! So that the oil stays topped up a new valve cover gasket was installed while it was on the lift. To ensure peak performance, a new engine air filter and fuel filter were installed. We also performed a coolant flush to keep the cooling system running tip-top. The diesel is connected to a stout automatic gearbox which maximizes the broad torque curve of the engine and shifts properly all the way up to highway speeds. While 2WD will deliver better fuel economy and acceleration, 4WD can be engaged through a cabin-mounted button. If the going gets really tough, 4WD low is also an option for the pilot to utilize. The transfer case output seal was replaced while it was on our lift, and new fluid has replaced the old stuff. We also performed a front and rear differential service, so that the next owner can hit the road immediately for a road trip. The ABS brakes feel confident and the power steering is light and easy to articulate. New front sway bar end links have replaced the old ones, and a new right front inner and outer tie rods were done as well. The front upper ball joints were taken care of while we were in there, and Surf rides like a dream now thanks to a set of brand-new rear shocks. Lastly, grippy new 31" Falken rubber was mounted and balanced at all four corners. The new tires not only suit the aesthetic but will last for tens of thousands of miles to come and a new alignment capped off the service.
