This well-equipped 1996 Hilux Surf is a refined, rugged, and resilient SUV. It boasts plenty of power equipment, safety features, and upgrades. Powered by a dependable gas V6 and underpinned by a sturdy 4x4 system this SSR-G is offered with only 160k verified and documented miles. This clean, recently serviced rig would be ideal for everyone from families to dedicated adventurers and everyone in between. Finished in a subtle, yet classic Desert Dune Metallic (1A5) this Surf is accented by a set of OEM tinted rainguards, FET fog lamps, OEM brushguard, and a subtle factory rear spoiler. The body and paint are in good nick aside from some light dings chips and scuffs associated with normal use. For those looking for a reliable, year-round daily, camping rig, or weekend cruiser, this VZN185 is the ticket and a bonafide Japanese Classic.

The cabin is clean, spacious, and well equipped. The view of the road ahead is clear and commanding and the dashboard lacks any cracking or distortion. Dual front SRS airbags are standard and add a level of reassurance when behind the wheel. A centrally located automatic climate control system is at hand, a blasts hot heat and cold A/C. A Kenwood audio upgrade is close by and sounds great. Above, a roof-mounted OEM Field monitor keeps an eye on the exterior conditions and direction of travel. The seats are trimmed in a durable gray cloth. They lack any major rips, stains, or tears and the driver's seat even includes adjustable lumbar support. To make daily use enjoyable the driver also receives electric windows, power-folding mirrors, power locks, and a tilt steering column. The rear window rolls down too, if you have a canine companion, and parking in reverse is aided by a rear parking mirror that unfurls from the spoiler. The carpets, headliner, and door cards have resisted major abuse over the years and the truck was obviously cared for in a prior life.

The US 4Runner shares the engine and transmission with this Surf so sussing parts is easy and this truck boasts a low cost of ownership because of it. The 3400 V6 is fresh off an oil and filter service and starts up promptly thanks to a new 12v battery. The 5VZ idles with confidence thanks to a newly installed engine air filter, and is mated to a selective transfer case and automatic gearbox. Shifts occur seamlessly and the gearing is great for sustained highway use. For less than ideal weather conditions, the driver can engage low 4WD and a center locker if necessary. The ride quality is now much better than it used to be, as we replaced the front and rear shocks while it was up on our lift. The vehicle is smooth and predictable and the steering is light, yet communicative for a truck. The brakes are equally confident and adhesion is handled by new 31" Falken all terrains we mounted at all four corners. The new tires look mean and will last for tens of thousands of miles to come.
