Stock #6078This KZN185 Surf is a tough, trusty, and handsome Japanese Classic. Finished in Toyota's classic Desert Dune Metallic (1A5), this midsize Ute is set off by OEM tri-spoke alloys, an aggressive factory rear spoiler, factory rainguards, a stylish rear spare tire swingarm, and a factory brushguard with integrated PIAA fog lamps. Aside from a right front fender replacement in Japan and a few light dings, chips, and scuffs this Surf is no worse for the wear and turn key ready to roll. Fresh off a recent service, this lovely rig touts a mere 69k verified and documented miles on the clock. If you think that mileage is nice, you can feel even better that this five-seater is fitted with a nearly bulletproof diesel engine, the 1KZ-TE which packs a serious punch! Safe, spacious, and inexpensive to operate, this collectible Hilux Surf would make for a dependable daily, cool weekend cruiser, or bonafide all-star at the campsite! The cabin is in good shape overall and was cared for in Japan. The dashboard lacks any cracking or distortion and houses standard dual front SRS airbags. Also added for this generation are standard ABS brakes and improved side impact protection in case you happen to be safety-conscious. Mounted next to the map light switches, a factory field monitor displays the outside conditions and direction of travel. It's also illuminated well, like the gauges which are easy to read at a glance. The functional OEM audio and automatic climate controls are located in the center stack. Cold A/C and hot heat can be cycled through the cabin year-round, and for those who prefer more natural ventilation, power windows and the rear glass can be unfurled eclectically. The optional power folding mirrors function as do the power locks, and to make daily use more enjoyable, the driver benefits from an adjustable steering column and lumbar support. The Moon Mist colored cloth seats are durable and in good shape. They lack any major rips, stains, or tears. The middle row split folds, tumbles flat, and can also 4-way recline, unlike the 4Runner. Aside from some light staining on the carpet and the rear spoiler under the mirror that is not operational, it's hard to complain about the cabin. On the positive side, the headliner and door cards are in good condition, and compared to Stateside examples, there is a lot to be happy about.Under the skin this truck shares its guts with our American 4Runners making parts sourcing a snap. Modifications are also easy, as the running gear and suspension is plug and play with our US models. Conveniently the 4Runner has a vast aftermarket for those who want to build this rig into something prolific. Fresh off an oil and filter service the 3.0L churns to life care of two new 12v batteries we installed in our shop. Like all of our diesels, a new fuel filter was installed and we also fitted a brand new valve cover gasket. The 1K feeds power through a stout automatic transmission to both axles or just the rear. The driver can easily change between two and 4WD depending on the road conditions. For those looking to traverse more aggressive terrain, an OEM center-locking differential can be engaged as extra insurance. Acceleration is decent for an SUV and the low-end torque pays dividends from a dead stop in traffic. Sustained highway cruising is effortless and the suspension was refreshed with new rear upper control arms. The ride is on the firmer side for a truck but overall the platform is predictable and agile, again for an SUV. The brakes feel tight and tidy, aided by new front pads and front rotors. The 16" wheels are wrapped in grippy 31" Falken tires that will deliver all the grip needed for tens fo thousands of miles to come.*California Residents: In order to register a Grey Market vehicle in the state of California then it will have to be made CARB compliant first.
