Exterior Overview
Most Subaru diehards laud the second generation Legacy as being one of the most durable, dependable, and capable vehicles in the brand’s history, and we’re happy to back up that claim. The styling is simple yet attractive, they’re optioned comfortably, and the standard symmetrical AWD system is second to none. It’s clear our US market prioritized function over fun, as the anemic engine options left a bit to be desired. Japan blessed its domestic market with a peppy twin turbo H4, and now we can sufficiently say this 1996 Legacy GT-B has it all! Finished in Aspen White (51E), and set off by OEM rainguards, a tasteful rear spoiler, and factory mudguards, this Leggy’s a looker, despite a few spots of touch up paint and some other minor cosmetic defects. The 76k verified miles on the clock are far better than anything found stateside. Even better, we’ve given it a comprehensive recent service so this wagon is turn key and ready to rock. Unique, capable, and fun to own, modify, and maintain, this is a standout Japanese Classic!

Mechanical Overview
The EJ20H under the hood is a real powerhouse. Well constructed, fresh off a recent service, and easy to maintain with standard Subaru parts, this Legacy is a safe bet in terms of serviceability. It cranks over with haste, and settles into a smooth idle, with an FGK catback emitting a sufficient amount of Subaru burble under throttle. Getting on track for regular maintenance schedules, we installed a new timing belt, water pump, and thermostat, which should cover you for the next 10 years or 100,000 kilometers. To shore up any leaks of lubricant, we addressed a leaky rear main seal and oil separator plate, and topped everything off with a fresh oil and filter service. This twin turbo tourer has more than enough oomph to get out of its own way, and a smooth shifting automatic does a fine job at sending power to all four wheels. We replaced the right inner and outer tie rods up front to assist state inspection, the Legacy is stable and cruises effortlessly on the highway, and standard ABS brakes stop with confidence. The factory alloys give an OEM plus appearance and are wrapped in brand new rubber on all four corners. After a fresh alignment, this grand tourer is primed and ready to deliver endless smiles per gallon!
