The engine is mated to an automatic transmission, which shifts properly, and is geared for US interstates unlike smaller vans sold in Japan. Acceleration is brisk and power is fed to all four wheels. The steering is light and the brakes feel confident in slowing this rig down when required. The long overhangs give this HiAce some help, and the turning radius is impressive if you live in a metropolitan area. The suspension is compliant, and the ride quality is decent for a vehicle of this age.
