There is a treasure trove of clean, reliable, and capable SUVs still left in Japan and this 1995 Mitsubishi Pajero is one of them. Finished in a subtle Balboa Blue Mica over Gray two-tone it's powered by a punchy 2.8L turbodiesel. This killer rig is offered with a mere 87K verified miles. Other than some scratches on the hood, and some minor dings and chips associated with normal use, the body is in good shape overall. This XR-2 is also more refined than you may think and includes plenty of power options as well, and it would make a stellar, year-round daily-driver or weekend cruiser. Recently serviced and legally imported, this two-door, body on frame 'ute is a real deal Japanese Classic.

The cabin has been maintained well overseas, and the old owners even included the original manual and spare key. Rarely found working, this Pajero even includes a remote control key fob that unlocks the vehicle without needing to put a key in the door. Other convenience features we wanted to note include power windows, power-folding mirrors, and electric door locks. These all work as they should and the driver even gets an adjustable steering column. The room up front is impressive and the '95 models got some upgrades including a fully digital climate control system that sits front and center. Easy to use and modern looking, the control is intuitive and the LCD display still works. Below is an updated audio system by Carrozzaria, that looks much more current than the factory unit, and includes auxiliary input. The dash is in good nick and lacks any cracking or distortion and includes a tough-looking gauge suite. Extra storage comes from a sizable glovebox and center console. The gray cloth seats are in above-average shape for a vehicle of this age. They lack andy major rips, holes, or tears and are quite comfortable on long cruises. The headliner still looks good, as do the door cards and carpet. Rear privacy tint keeps the interior temps down a bit in summer and factory rain guards allow for some cool airflow through the cabin with the windows down.

The drivetrain is as good as any Toyota and even has some upgrades such as a more advanced 4WD system. Powered by a 4M40 four-banger that is fresh off an oil and filter service, she starts right up with the twist of the key. The two new 12V batteries aid ignition and should last for at least the next four years to come. Power is fed through an automatic transmission and sent two or all four wheels. The auto shifts properly and the selective transfer case can be utilized at speeds up to 62mph. A locking center differential can be put to work if the going ever gets tough. The brakes feel confident and the stock suspension is compliant enough for daily use. Hard and soft settings can be selected on the fly for driver comfort. The factory alloy wheels are all wrapped in new all-season rubber at all four corners. They should provide year-round grip in even the muckiest of situations
