When this 1993 Mitsubishi Pajero was sold new, capable 4WD systems and rugged body on frame design were all the norm. The Pajero is arguably one of the most underrated SUVs from this era with its bulletproof turbo diesel yet small enough to fit in any city parking spot. Two-door SUVs only had a brief moment in history before they all became massive glorified sedans so the Pajero is a refreshing sight to see. Make no bones about it, these don't sacrifice on capability just due to the wheelbase. This one was optioned with Mitsubishi's killer Alamoana Green Metallic (F76) over Hamilton Silver Metallic (A71) two-tone which gives it an even more distinct look. Especially with the oversized yellow fogs that really pop off the green. The paint is in great shape barring your typical clear coat scratches and some stone chips. Then again with only 140K verified miles it's to be expected that it's not showroom new. The stock body is just as clean with the exception of a door ding or two. Overall, the truck looks fantastic and the condition of both the body and interior are far above average for age and miles.

The interior of this Pajero is in wonderful shape, and surprisingly well equipped though not everything is still operational. We did want to make note that the tach and power side mirrors no longer function but luckily neither are critical. Since it's an auto the tach doesn't have much impact and you can still move the mirrors manually. The more important things like the power windows, locks, and digital climate control system are all working as they should. The rear climate control is no longer functioning though not many people are looking to squeeze back there in the first place. Plus, with its shorter wheelbase, the front vents pretty much reach the back seats in the first place. While the interior is mostly all stock it does have one surprising change which is the head unit. Normally the FM range for Japan is 76-90 but this one actually goes up to 99FM so you do get some extra stations in conjunction with the USB input. A gauge suite with a functional compass, altimeter, and thermometer sitting atop the dash is a nice touch that hints that this is legitimately capable off the beaten path. The front seats are in great shape which is typically one of the first things to start showing their age. The light-colored checked cloth is surprisingly soft to the touch but has obviously proven its durability over the years. The only blemish to the back seats is a split along the top of the passenger seatback. The only time you'd notice it is when the seats are folded down or when you're loading up the trunk. With its side-mounted swing, it makes loading and unloading a breeze since you don't have to reach over a tailgate. When the back seats are folded up you nearly double the cargo capacity so don't let its size fool you. '95 means you get the newer style digital climate control system and the A/C is up to par for the inbound summer months. Though it's hard not to enjoy this thing with the windows down, and you even have the oversized factory rain guards as well for when the weather doesn't want to cooperate. Another bonus is this Pajero is factory optioned with the cold weather package which means it gets a bit thicker insulation for the cabin.

Getting down to the nuts and bolts of the Pajero, it's powered by Mitsubishi's famous turbo diesel 4 cylinder the 4M40. Being the second generation of the Pajero its larger displacement can definitely be felt over its predecessor, and this midsized ute has no issues getting up to highway speeds. Paired up with the automatic really is the best option for these. The auto is quick to engage and rolls through the gears with ease. These certainly don't feel like the '90s slushboxes that initially come to mind. The "Super Select" 4WD system was quite advanced in '95 featuring on the fly select-ability between 2WD, 4WD High, 4WD High + Locked Center Differential, and 4WD Low +Locked Center Differential. All of these options can be selected at speeds up to 62 MPH. The steering is rather light and quite responsive due to the wheelbase, but not darty in the least. We took care of all the loose ends once it touched down here. Two new 12V batteries let the 2.8L crank over immediately. All 5 tires have been replaced with new Falken All Terrains so you shouldn't have to worry about having enough grip regardless of the situation. It also has new front outer axle boots, right rear axle seal, along with new boot clamps. Now, this Mitsu is ready to conquer the US for the first time. With generous approach angles and tons of travel, the Pajero is plenty capable off-road while being civil enough to enjoy on a daily basis. Offering without a doubt one of the best bangs for the buck when it comes to performance and comfort you can't go wrong with a good Pajero!
