The Hilux Surf is one of our bestselling SUVs and these second-generation models are becoming much harder to find as the years progress. They are durable, capable, and parts are readily available here in the US. This 1995 SSR-X Surf is nothing short of a showstopper, finished in TRD Cavalry Blue (8W2) over Silver. Sporting only 129k verified and documented miles, this rig is set off by OEM rainguards and a chrome roof basket. Aside from a few light scuffs and dings the body and paint are in good condition overall. Fresh off a recent service, this five-seat hauler would make for a unique daily driver, weekend trail toy, or family-friendly SUV. No matter your intentions, this beautiful Japanese Classic is turn-key and ready for its next chapter here stateside.
Once inside the spacious cabin, you’ll find the seats are trimmed in a rugged blue cloth that lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. The functional climate control system delivers cold A/C on demand and hot heat for the cooler months. The driver benefits from power locks, power windows, and power mirrors which make daily use enjoyable. Equipped with a functioning electric sunroof and power rear window, you can maximize the amount of airflow coming into the cabin while keeping your furry friends happy in the back too. The carpet is in decent shape only showing some minor stains from normal daily use. The door cards and headliner show no notable imperfections other than minor lifting on the left rear arm pad, but overall they've held up extremely well. That’s not to say the interior is perfect, as the dashboard has a few cracks above the gauge cluster and the head unit doesn't function, which is a common issue on these old trucks. Still, at 25 years old it's obvious it's been cared for in a prior life and we think the next owner will agree.
The diehard Toyota enthusiasts get excited over the Hilux’s simple and well tested mechanicals. This 1KZ-TE turbo diesel was never offered to our stateside market and is much more rewarding to drive over our gasoline powerplants here. This 3.0 is fresh off an oil and filter service and starts up promptly. It breathes freely thanks to a new engine air filter, which also works to maximize those MPGs. To keep all the oil internal a new valve cover gasket was installed and we replaced the half-moon seals while we were at it! We also took care of a new radiator while we were servicing this SSR-X to keep this four-banger cool. The electronics will stay properly powered thanks to the new serpentine belts that we installed when it was on the lift. Torque is fed through a smooth shifting automatic transmission and the selective transfer case allows the driver to select between two and four-wheel-drive, with low gearing on hand should you really become entrenched in tough terrain. Behind the wheel, the brakes feel firm, and the power-assisted steering is smooth and precise thanks to a rebuilt power steering pump. A new steering damper was replaced, too. The Falken Rubitreks are knee-deep in tread at each corner. Not only do they look mean, but they should deliver plenty of on or off-road grip for the road ahead, and the Surf was freshly aligned so it tracks straight as an arrow!
