The Hilux is known for its legendary ruggedness. This impressive, 1994 Hilux Surf has all the right equipment and options and comes ready to tackle stateside on and off-road terrain. With only 140K verified miles, this unmolested 4WD example utilizes a bulletproof diesel powerplant not sold here in the states, and in immeasurably better condition than those you'll see on Autotrader. Starting with the exterior hue, finished in Blue Pearl Metallic (8E3) over thatched Gray cloth, the body is free of any major flaws, dents, or dings and the paint is impressive only showing minor imperfections from normal use. Naturally, there are a few scratches, but the body is well above average for a vehicle this age, which the same can be said about the interior. Adorned with five new oversized tires, OEM rain guards and brush guard, the ever-capable Hilux puts most any current SUV offerings to shame.

The interior, while spartan in its design, is driver-focused and utilitarian. The factory seats are not only comfortable but also provide plenty of support to keep you firmly planted in the seats when the road disappears and things get a bit rocky. The condition of the front and rear seats are impressive, with virtually no noticeable bolster wear or rips. The carpet is in beautiful condition, as is the sag-free headliner, and it's obvious this beautiful rig hasn't seen much if any, off-road use. Privacy tint surrounds all the rear occupants and reduces interior temps. Cup holders, power locks, auto down power window functionality, and A/C all work as they should. The dash is in great shape on this, free of any sun fading or cracking.

The North American market never received the venerable 1KZ-TE 3.0L diesel version on the Hilux Surf. While that was a real downside to the models sold in the states, the best power train option is equipped in this model, and can now be yours. To paraphrase the show Top Gear, this engine is indestructible, and so is the driveline. Known for its durability and low cost of ownership, it is paired with selectable 4WD and a convenient automatic transmission. The large four-cylinder fires up quickly, compliments of two new 12V batteries installed by one of our trained technicians. Idle is as smooth as a huge four-cylinder can be, and the diesel clatter isn't invasive in the cabin. Acceleration is brisk throughout the mid-range, and shifts are smooth albeit lackadaisical. The automatics do have a power holding function and can hold revs up a bit when the accelerator pedal is being over-utilized. The suspension does great at sorting out all the bumps, and the steering is light and easy to articulate. Toyota's TEMS systems give the suspension adjustability, and the SUV has sport and touring presets that can be adjusted in the cabin. Naturally, there is some additional road noise from the sizeable 33's but nothing you wouldn't already expect. The brakes also feel strong, and the midsize SUV comes to a stop without issue. As with all of our vehicles our trained technicians have thoroughly inspected this Hilux and all maintenance is up to date, with the next oil service not being needed for 3000 miles.

The capable, unique, and reliable SUV is a timeless design. Its over-engineered diesel drivetrain, sterling reputation for a low cost of ownership, and curb appeal make it a hit as a daily driver, or a JDM off-road legend.
