Fast wagons are a niche segment, and the US was largely ignored over the past 26 years. Meanwhile, half a world away in Japan, the engineers at Subaru were mass-producing fast turbocharged wagons at affordable prices. For those who required more space and a few more creature comforts than a WRX can provide, this twin-turbo Legacy fits the bill. Finished in Light Silver Metallic (406) and accentuated with OEM aero, this 1994 hauler is offered with only 113k verified miles. The body is in good shape other than the normal dings and chips associated with daily use, and the interior has been well cared for over the years. This Legacy also boasts tons of recent maintenance items, and the most prized option, a manual transmission!

The interior design used for the cabin is clean and simple. With plenty of storage and room for five, the cockpit is perfect for commuting or taking a trip with the family. The gauges are all simple, and easy to read and the switchgear is all in a logical order. A digital climate system allows for quick interior temperature adjustments and works as it should. The seats and door cards are done in a soft gray cloth, with light blue and red accents. The seats are bolstered so that occupants don't slosh around while driving spiritedly, and so that long cruises remain comfortable. The material is in wonderful shape, devoid of any major rips, stains, or tears. The headliner is clean, and the carpets and door cards are upholstered tightly to their proper locations. A leather Momo wheel looks sporty and isn't heavily worn like many vehicles of this vintage. That's not to say the interior is perfect as a head unit is needed, there is a small amount of dash distortion, and a slight crack on the driver's door card that is hardly noticeable. Overall these are small items, but we prefer to disclose things like this and price our vehicles accordingly. All power accessories including windows, locks, and power-folding mirrors function properly.

The powertrain is exclusive and highly prized in amongst Subaru die-hards. This twin-turbocharged two-liter makes incredible power with little lag. Benefitting from a fresh oil and filter change, the EJ turns over happily with a turn of the key. Setting into a constant idle, with those boxer overtones, the gasoline mill revs freely and feels strong. Mated to a close-ratio five-speed manual, acceleration is brisk. The linkage has been improved with a new shifter bushing and rowing through the gears is a pleasurable experience. Power is sent to both axles via Subaru symmetrical all-wheel-drive system. The suspension handles US roadways without an issue and the brakes and steering offer a confident feeling. 16" x 6.5" BBS Mesh forged alloys all sport new DOT approved tires to ensure adhesion is at a premium all year round.

For those who want a bonafide sleeper, the Legacy would seem to be high on the list. As a weekend toy, daily driver, or family hauler, it would make for a great option as well. This rare twin-turbo, stick shift estate is a certified Japanese Classic.
