The R33 Skyline has often caught some flack, coming in between the legendary R32 and the world-renowned R34. The R33 never quite got the credit that it deserved which is what makes it such a great bang for the buck. Its pricing is typically similar to the previous R32 yet offers a ton of advancements. Out with the RB20 and in with the more robust, and powerful, RB25DET. The aerodynamics have been improved, along with the chassis and interior. Taking everything that was good about the R32 and improving upon it is a bonafide win! Our latest ’94 takes what was already good and turned it into a purpose-built beast. While you could daily drive it, chances are this will be more of a weekend toy. While the stock styling can be debated depending on your personal taste, modified ones are a whole different story. The iconic 400R style front bumper looks just right filled with that giant Blitz front mount intercooler. BN Sport style vented fenders flow nicely into the BN Sports side skirts and back bumper. One of the more unique exterior changes comes from the small decklid spoiler in lieu of the traditional Type-M wing. It evident that the car was resprayed the factory Super Clear Red (AN0) when all of the additional aero was added to prevent it from having a rough color match. Overall the paint shows really well and is free of your typical chips. Per usual, the body is in the same shape barring a door ding or two. Since stock wheels are a bit boring a proper set of 17” Enkei Altia N1 racing wheels were fitted. Which are a fantastic choice as they were one of the great Nissan race teams of the era (check out the awesome livery if you haven’t already.) And for those with a keen eye, you’ll spot the series two headlights which have a bit cleaner appearance than the original ones.

Depending on the direction you look will dictate how to describe the interior. Overall the cockpit of the R33 is not only larger than its predecessor but also more refined. From the cozy reclinable Bride driver’s seat, the interior looks largely factory. The original wheel was ditched in favor of a Sprint 3 spoke which is considerably more streamlined than the stock one was. Both of these are in pretty good shape, however, there is some typical wear to be expected from routine use over the years. The stock passenger seat is in good shape and offers a reasonable amount of support for the longer drives. The back seats are spotless due to the fact they’ve been removed. Everything rearward of the front seats has been cut out and removed. The weight reduction is a nice perk, however, does create a bit more noise in the cabin. While the car is plenty good on the street, it may not be the best option for a daily driver. While partially gutted, they did keep most of the creature comforts. Power windows, power-folding mirrors, and a digital climate control ensure that it doesn’t feel like a complete drift car, even despite the fact the A/C is currently inop. Below the opening for the radio sits an HKS EVC which gives you further control over your power levels and tucks in quite nicely.

Below the flowing bonnet, one of Nissan's finest ever engines resides. The RB25DET doesn't get the press of its 2.6L cousin, but it packs nearly the same punch. And this isn’t your regular RB25, this one has a series two transplant. While fundamentally similar it had quite a few small change-ups to increase performance and longevity. Some of the notable change-ups are the transition to a ceramic turbine wheel rather than aluminum. Another key change was moving onto an ignition coil with built-in ignitors. On top of the factory upgrades, we have a few aftermarket ones as well. The HKS intake makes all the right sounds and allows for better breathing. On the exhaust side, a polished Fujistubo exhaust deepens the bark of RB25 and adds a few ponies. Around the corners, normally your factory suspension feels a bit floaty under normal circumstances. Instead, Tein adjustable dampers are fitted that lower ride height, center of gravity, and obviously get the stance to a more fitting height. A Cusco strut tower brace also helps to reduce chassis flex. The five-speed manual transmission was originally spec'd in this car and shifts smoothly through the gears. The car makes plenty of power all the way through the rev range and effortlessly surpasses any posted highway signs. We have gone over the car to ensure it’s in proper running shape so you can drive this one home if you wanted to. All new tires, replacement HICAS arms, a new set of plugs, a fresh fuel filter, and a routine oil change have everything brought back up to date. While the dash reads 37K miles due to the motor swap the miles are obviously not verified. It's a testament to Nissan's engineering, as this car outperforms most newer vehicles, despite having been made a quarter-century ago. This well maintained, Japanese Classic is a turn-key ready option for those who wish to drive a more hardcore version of this legendary vehicle.
