If you want an overland rig that is already set up, were here to offer you this 1994 Hilux Surf. It has everything you want, from the new OME suspension to the brutish 1KZ turbo diesel, to a stellar Recaro interior. At 154k verified and documented miles, this rig is only now just getting broken in. It's finished in a menacing Toyota Black (204) and accessorized with a useful roof rack and A US-spec tow bar. Aside from some normal dings and chips, the body is in good shape, and this recently serviced SUV is ready to rock.

The interior admittedly is spartan and simple, but to many, that is the allure. The centerpiece is the factory Recaro seats, obviously, but this cabin includes a few other pricey upgrades.  The view of the road ahead is clear and commanding, as this tall SUV rides far above traffic. The dash is in good shape and lacks the cracking that plague these models. Centrally mounted is a new SSL head unit with Bluetooth capabilities. While the speakers have seen better days that's an easy enough upgrade, and the automatic climate control is located adjacently. The A/C blows cold and the controls are intuitive to use. To the right of the steering wheel, an Auber 1813 EGT gauge keeps an eye on the exhaust temps past the turbocharger. The aforementioned front and rear Recaro seats lack any major rips, stains, or tears, and the matching door cards are in similar shape. The headliner looks good and includes the factory manuals and some prior service info for the next owner as well. Power windows, locks, and mirrors all work as advertised and make daily use much more convenient. Even the rear glass powers down for additional ventilation although we did want to note the key function to lower the tailgate from the rear is inoperable. Still, at nearly three decades old this truck is in good nick overall and was cared for in a prior life.

These trucks are wonderful on and off-road. The appeal of the N130 is its simplicity and legendary reliability. This 1KZ-TE is fresh off a rebuild and has a new lease on life. From the new timing belt and water pump to the oil and filter service, the thing is tip top. We have also installed two new 12v batteries to keep this thing cranking in the deepest of winter cold snaps. Speaking of which, a block heater was added so you can plumb her right into your nearest extension cord to make sure the Surf rumbles to life even in sub-zero temps. The EGR was deleted and a new aluminum radiator was added, too. Mated to an automatic gearbox the whole truck moves quite well despite its weight. The gearbox shifts properly and sends power to two or four wheels, depending on the driver's preference. The selective transfer case also has a low gear set and these things are tanks in winter and on loose surfaces such as sand. A 3-inch lift and Old Man Emu nitrogen shocks replaced the dated factory suspension and increase this truck's off-road prowess while delivering decent ride quality. New sway bar links and front brakes pads and rotors shore everything else up and the Surf is riding on factory alloys knee-deep in Falken tread.
