The 1980's and 90's automotive culture was dominated by the Japanese and is considered to be the heyday of Honda. The fifth-generation Civic is the culmination of decades of continual improvement building compact cars, and they nailed the design. This "bubble" body style is simple and elegant and still looks good to this day. This 1994 EL example is finished in Granda Black Pearl (NH-503P) and offered with a mere 45K verified miles on the chassis. Aside from some minor dings and scuffs, the body is in good shape overall as is the interior. Frugal, unique, simple, and fun, these Honda hatches make wonderful daily drivers. This unmolested, highly collectible, two-door is a clean classic Honda that has been recently serviced and legally imported. After all, it is a Japanese Classic.

The cabin is classic Honda which means it's thoughtful, ergonomic, and spacious. The view from the driver's seat is clean and unobscured as this little car has plenty of glass all around. The dash is in good shape and lacks any cracks or weather-related wear. The gauges are easy to read and the driver benefits from power windows for those who like natural ventilation. The A/C blows cold which is key in a black car for this upcoming summer and the climate control system is easy to adjust. The only upgrade comes in the form of an aftermarket head unit that looks more modern and works as it should. Manual mirrors and locks are one less thing that can break and the driver receives a sizable glove box for additional storage. We did want to note the original manuals still sitting in the glove box which add to this vehicle's originality. The upholstery and door cards are done in the same soft gray textured cloth. The driver seat has a small hole, but otherwise, the cloth seating lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. Even the OEM security cover is still sitting behind the rear seat and keeps prying eyes off your personal effects.

The engine and transmission work in unison to provide a splendid driving experience. Fresh off a recent oil and filter service the D13B four-cylinder churns to life quickly thanks to a new 12V battery we installed in our shop. It should last for the next four years at least and provide all the juice necessary to help crank this engine over in the dead of winter. The automatic transmission feeds power to the front wheels. Despite the modest horsepower output, the Civic is still peppy enough to safely merge into traffic. The gearbox shifts properly and is geared better on the highway than the manual version. A new engine air filter was installed to make sure the little D-series breathes freely. We have also freshened up the driveline with a new left front axel boot and she drives nicely thanks to a set of brand new rubber at all four corners. Conveniently, the weight of the driveline over the front wheels gives this car the ability to be driven in the snow if you need to get somewhere in a pinch. The new tires will also last for tens of thousands more miles and quiet down the ride noticeably. The suspension and brakes feel confident and steering is communicative and lightly weighted. This Civic makes the perfect gas sipper for daily driving or one excellent base for a clean build.
