Exterior Overview
Everyone wants to feel like Rambo, and this 70 series Land Cruiser feeds into our most primal urges. It looks the part, with bold, boxy bodylines, and has all the turbo diesel torque enthusiasts need to tear up the trails or tarmac. That’s not to say this is a limited-use vehicle, as most of our clients daily drive them on city streets and highways. We believe this 1993 offers a ton more over a US market Cruiser, and it shows well in one-off Spice Red over Black two-tone. Set off by aa aftermarket suspension lift, OEM rainguards, and refinished 15″ Pajero alloys, the aesthetic is hard to deny, and enthusiasts will appreciate that this turbodiesel terror has racked up a scant 133k verified and documented miles over the years. Save for a few minor chips and dings, this handsome rig is right at home on stateside streets. Built on a stout ladder frame design that has withstood 40+ years of use and abuse, this Prado is no joke. It’s durable, reliable, and a darn good Japanese Classic at that.
Interior Overview
While utilitarian in design, it’s impressive how capable the cabin is at sustaining daily use in the 21st century. This can be attributed to Toyota’s tried and true engineering, but it’s also a clear indicator that this Prado was well cared for in a prior life. The pilot can find the ideal driving position thanks to a tilt-adjustable steering column and power-adjustable lumbar support. Daily use is improved with functional power locks, power windows, and electric mirrors. The center stack is close by, and is modernized to boot, with functional touchscreen audio. It sounds decent and supplements your commute with a few pre-downloaded Japanese tunes. It’s mounted adjacent to an easy-to-use climate control system, which doles out cold A/C and hot heat on command. If you prefer more natural ventilation, a massive optional power moonroof can tilt and retract. Additionally, the rear quarter glass pops outward to let a natural breeze waft through. The headliner and carpets are in good shape, and the grey upholstery has been protected by a set of fitted leather seat covers. They give the cabin a premium feel and also make cleaning up spills a breeze. Apart from some hairline cracks in the dash material and some damage to one of the door cards, it’s hard to nitpick this cabin, as it’s clear the previous owner cared for it overseas.
Mechanical Overview
Under the bonnet, it’s hard to go wrong with Toyota’s formidable 1KZ-TE. These diesels are frugal on fuel, chock full of torque, and we’ve given this Prado a hefty helping of good service to get you on track for the road ahead. We kicked things off by installing two new 12V batteries to aid ignition. From there, we tended to a new engine air filter and fuel filter, and installed new serpentine belts to reliably drive your accessories. An oil and filter service was also performed, and we installed a new valve cover gasket, complete with half-moon seals. These diesels are stout, and this one healthily jets up to highway speeds. It sends power to an automatic gearbox, and selective 4WD is on hand so you don’t guzzle fuel on your morning commute. If you do need to engage all four wheels, it’s a simple affair, and this truck is also equipped with a functional and desirable rear locker. We also installed a new transfer case output seal for good measure. The lifted suspension comfortably soaks up road imperfections, and a new steering stabilizer was installed to keep this lifted box from feeling like a lifted box. We also rebuilt the power steering pump to keep fluid internal. It stops on command, courtesy of new front brake pads and rotors, and to get you on track for tens of thousands of miles of unencumbered motoring, the wheels were wrapped in brand new 35″ Falken All Terrain rubber, and this rig was freshly aligned! Turn key and ready to rock, this rig would make for a unique daily driver, cool weekend cruiser, or anything in between.
