For those folks who desire year-round capability with a healthy helping of luxury the Land Cruiser 80 series is the ticket. This 1992 VX Limited model is well equipped, spacious, and benefits from one heck of a 4.2L turbo-diesel powerplant. This 4x4 is fresh off a recent service and is offered with a mere 142k verified and documented miles on the chassis. The original Light Beige Metallic was ditched in Japan for a more appropriate Midnight Black, and the body is in good shape aside from some minor scuffs, dings, and chips associated with normal use.

The interior is spacious and full of premium materials and power amenities. The view of the road ahead is clear and commanding as this tall truck rides above traffic. Aftermarket keyless entry is incredible to have when it's raining and works like a charm. VX Limited cars came with some decent equipment and this one is no exception. A retractable power sunroof, power windows door locks, and mirrors are all standard. These all work as advertised with the exception of the driver side mirror which we recommend adjusting manually. The folding side mirrors are powered, which is convenient for city parking on such a large rig. The seats are trimmed in a two-tone Alcantara combo. They are soft to the touch and comfortable and lack any major rips, stains, or tears. They are bolstered properly for long cruises and the driver seat even includes a power lumbar adjustment. The headliner and door cards look good and the carpets have withstood any major damage over the past thirty years.

The drivetrain is as good as gold in these trucks and unlike the American spec vehicles, this one is powered by a smooth-running and powerful diesel engine. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 4.2L engine fires up instantly thanks to two new 12v batteries we installed here stateside. It's incredible how low vibration this turbodiesel mill is, and that's largely due to the fact it's a straight-six. A new set of serpentine belts keep the accessories running tip-top and if you're a technical type, take a gander in the engine bay you can see these things have tons of room to work on them. This Land Cruiser is underpinned by a full-time 4WD system that has available low gearing. The automatic gearbox was the most popular transmission, and this one shifts seamlessly. It's crazy how efficient these things are, and we hear frequently of highway fuel economy in the mid-twenties. Admittedly these things don't corner like a Lotus, but the long wheelbase and heavy curb weight lend themselves to more refined and luxurious ride quality than most of our SUVs demonstrate. The power steering and brakes feel confident and the truck benefits from new rubber at all four corners. These all-terrain tires fit the aesthetic and will deliver premium year-round grip for tens of thousands of miles to come. For those who want a capable, efficient, and collectible JDM SUV, these are the ticket. They are tough, dependable, and sure-fire Japanese Classic for the drivers who don't want to blend into the crowd.
