The Toyota Hilux is undoubtedly one of the best vehicles ever built by Toyota hence its continued popularity. Known for its legendary reputation of being able to conquer any terrain with its bulletproof nature. This 199X Hilux Surf SSR-G has just arrived stateside, and based on how this one looks, its only a short matter of time until its conquering newfound American terrain. With only 35K verified miles, and a bevy of rare factory options make this Hilux a real gem. While completely capable off-road the SSR-G model is the top of the line when it comes to the Hilux models. Starting with the exterior hue, finished in Prussian Red Pearl (25T) over Dark Grey Metallic this Hilux is a real head turner. The body is free of any major flaws as far as dents or dings go and the paint is in similar shape. Naturally, there are a few scratches and door dings, but well above average for a 28 year old vehicle. The OEM optional rear wing also looks great and is a nice addition to finish out the rear. New 31" x 10.5" Falken rubber wraps the blacked-out 15" Team Rancho wheels and fits the style of the brooding SUV well. For general safety sake a massive brush guard with Bosch fogs was fitted to ensure that the front end stays in good shape regardless of where you're going.

The interior in the SSR-G is one of the best features of the top model. Factory Recaro seats were standard in this model and are not only comfortable but also provide additional support to keep you firmly planted in the seats when the road disappears and things get a bit rocky. It's even more difficult to find these OEM Recaro seats in this type of condition with virtually no bolster wear or rips and only some minor discoloration to the seat base at worst. The rear seats receive the same Recaro treatment along with the door panel fabric inserts in the same black trim. The interior has been kept all OEM, even down to the factory radio which works as well as it can here stateside. Most people will look to replace that with something more US compatible, which luckily will utilize all of the same pieces as the US 4Runner so there's nothing too hard to track down. These came rather well optioned from the factory and even has some rare bits we don't see too often like cruise control, a massive sunroof, and even rear privacy curtains. The split-folding rear seats also make for a great touch when you need to make a run to Lowes for some of the quarantine yard projects. One of the best parts of the Surf is the fact you have full open-air options between the giant sunroof as well as the power rear hatch glass. All of which are fitted with the factory rain guards for those spring showers.

Utilizing the same 3VZ-E 3 liter V6 that was offered stateside means that maintenance is a breeze. Unlike the diesel options that were never offered here, you won't have to go overseas to find your routine maintenance items which are great. You could actually have this serviced at your local Toyota dealership if you wanted to. The peppy V6 fires right up, but with only 35K miles that comes as little surprise. While it doesn't offer the same level of torque that the diesels do, it has no problem getting up to speed. The automatic trans shifts through with ease and feels right at home running down the highway. The suspension does great at sorting out all the bumps, and the steering is light and easy to articulate. Naturally, there is some additional road noise from the larger off-road tires, but nothing you wouldn't already expect. The brakes also feel strong, and the midsize SUV comes to a stop without issue. As with all of our vehicles, our trained technicians have thoroughly inspected this Surf and brought all of the maintenance up to date. Aside from the 5 new Falkens we also replaced the power steering belt, overhauled the cap/plugs/wires, and tuned up the A/C system along with its routine oil change. The capable, unique and reliable SUV is a timeless design. It's over-engineered drivetrain, rare OEM options, and instant curb appeal make it a hit as a daily driver or the offroad icon we all know and love.
