The Toyota Aristo is the epitome of what a grand tourer should be. Powerful yet comfortable, technologically advance while being reliable. Since it shares a platform here stateside these are some of the easiest vehicles that we import to maintain which is a huge benefit that many don't factor in when looking for a unique new toy. When the GS debuted here stateside it was generally well-received, however, it was a bit underpowered for its size. Like everything in the automotive world we always get shafted when it comes to the good motors. The Aristo rectified the underwhelming stat sheet by going ahead and using the 2JZ-GTE that we only saw used in the MKIV Supra. Who doesn't love having one of the most notoriously capable motors in an executive saloon? Our latest '92 has been kept pretty much all stock which means it's an ideal new daily driver for someone looking for the ultimate sleeper. While the body itself has been kept all stock, the Aristo did undergo a full color swap at some point. Originally it was Dark Bluish Gray (183) but has since been redone in Black Onyx (202). Luckily since the factory color was so dark to begin with you'd never be the wiser. The respray was relatively well done, however it clearly has some age to it. There are some scratches in the clear along with some spots of touchup paint from routine scratches over the years. Since the paints not perfect it makes this an even more tempting daily driver, since you won't always be terrified to leave it in the parking lot every time you get out. The body itself is in great shape with only a few typical little door dings.

The executive gray cloth compliments the Onyx bodywork well and has been exceptionally well maintained. Typically we see some bolster wear on the driver's seat or some wear on the steering wheel over the years but this one is largely free of any notable wear. All four seats have been kept stain and tear-free. The same can be said about the carpeting and door panels. The only thing worth noting is that both seat bases are no longer power-adjustable. It's a chronic Toyota issue where the plastic gear that drives the seat forward and back sheers. Luckily it can still be moved manually with a socket wrench, it's just not something you'd want to do every other day. These came fitted with all the bells and whistles of the time, and all of which are functioning as expected. Toyota really has set the benchmark for long term quality and reliability. Things like cruise control and a driver's airbag were hard to find at this time over there. Others like the power-folding mirrors, door locks, windows, and automatic climate control make day to day life far more pleasant.

At the heart of this Aristo lies the famous 2JZ-GTE. Known both for its reliability and ability to make huge power with very little effort. Mechanically the bulletproof twin-turbo 2JZ-GTE is in excellent condition with a mere 93K verified miles. The twin-turbo fires to life quickly and is surprisingly quiet through the stock exhaust. Idle is smooth, and these accelerate like a freight train. The power delivery is very linear and it truly feels like there's no end to it. Put your foot down to pass a slower car on the highway and hold on (and keep an eye on you the speedo since you'll quickly find yourself in ticket territory.) Shifts through the robust automatic transmission are smooth and pleasant seeing as these are more GT than sports car. The stock suspension makes the best of any road and really turns this into a car that you could easily chew up the highway in. As with all of our vehicles it's gone through a full mechanical check. Those familiar with the 2J know there are several common seals that go out on these. A new timing belt, and front main seal take care of the major ones; we also replaced the rear pads and front right outer tie rod as well. With all of that squared away you shouldn't have any maintenance to address for some time to come.
