As many young Americans have been wanting to explore the four corners of this nation, an explosion in "Adventurevans" has created a new automotive segment. The Delica is perfect for this purpose, as it features a reliable turbo diesel engine, capable 4WD, and a cabin that can sleep several explorers. This 1992 drives wonderfully, and if offered for sale with only 93K verified miles. Finished in (X08) Mystic Black Pearl, the body is straight other than the normal fading on the lower cladding and a few minors dings, chips, and scratches. Desirable for many more reasons than its iconic looks, and stubborn 4WD, this Crystal Light version is also packed full of creature comforts that make it an incredibly comfortable ride.

Hopping atop the chrome step sides next to the driver's door, a grab handle provides some additional assistance to get into this tall van. The driving position allows for a commanding perspective of the roadway, and an adjustable steering column fits about any size driver. The skinny A-pillars and large windshield glass, plus the addition of HID lights, make for great visibility at night time as well. The dash is in good shape and lacks any major discoloration or cracking. A classy upgrade, a Carrozzeria head unit includes auxiliary and USB inputs and powers an abundance of speakers. The sound quality isn't half bad, and the cabin shape is ideal for audio quality. The front occupants can control front and rear climate systems, and also have a front-row seat to view the off-road gauge suite mounted on the dash. For those who are used to modern amenities, power locks, mirrors, and windows are all standard. The seats have remained in good shape and the front two captains chairs are supportive and clean. Long trips can be had in comfort for all three rows, but behind the driver's seat is what will impress most. Two buckets reside in the middle row; they can be fully reclined or swiveled 180 degrees for some useful seating options. Above their heads, a massive glass-paneled sky roof allows tons of natural light into the cabin. At the press of a button, six different sunroof shades deploy to obscure the rays of the sun. The third-row seats a total of three people and can be fully removed when attempting to haul the maximum amount of cargo. The carpets and door cards are good indicators of how the van was used in a prior life, and we're proud to say that they are in above average shape compared to most Delica's on the market. Additionally, the vehicle includes some Japanese service history documentation in the glove box, and a spare set of keys should you want to share your new toy.

Mounted in between the axles, sits Mitsubishi's famed (4D56) turbodiesel. These workhorses are known for being overbuilt and can handle the rigors of daily use without being overstressed. This 2.5L four-cylinder has benefitted from fresh oil and filter service and fires up immediately at the turn of a key. It revs freely and sets into a constant idle. Acceleration is constant, and the torque curve is broad enough that you can pass other vehicles and merge adequately. The automatic transmission is smooth shifting and delivers quick shifts for a humongous people hauler. The suspension has an insane amount of ground clearance, and decent approach angles, as the Delica has very little overhangs. The four-wheel-drive system functions as it should, and if an off-road excursion is necessary, you can't really do much better in any type van. It handles potholes and speed bumps with confidence and the brakes stop the big transporter without breaking a sweat. New all-season tires have been mounted and balanced at four corners by one of our expert technicians and can handle rain and dirt pavement equally well.

Why not go exploring? The Delica can take you places other vans can't after all, and this one does it in style. The chrome bumper guards, oversized fogs, and projection headlamps project a real imposing image. Juxtaposed by its power amenities, flexible interior layout, and mind-blowing glass roof the comfort of the cabin is the polar opposite. For the enthusiast or the adventurer, this one of a kind vehicle is a must-have and a certified Japanese Classic.
